Her nails had always lasted really well. Then suddenly, they started lifting like crazy.
And the strange part?
We hadn’t changed her nail service.
So instead of assuming her nails had suddenly become “difficult”, we started talking about what had changed outside the nail appointment.
New products? Different routines? Anything she was using regularly on her hands?
That’s when she realised she’d recently started using a topical cream regularly for shoulder and muscle pain.
She later stopped using it — and the lifting stopped too.
Can I say for certain that the cream caused it? No.
But it was a really interesting reminder that when something suddenly changes with your nails, sometimes the answer isn’t sitting on the nail desk.
Changes in your routine, products you use, medications or what’s going on with your health can sometimes be worth considering too.
That’s why when a regular client’s retention suddenly changes, I’d much rather ask questions and work backwards than immediately blame their nails — or them.
Have you ever had something suddenly change with your nails for no obvious reason?

September is here… but I’m not ready to say goodbye to colour just yet. 😂
This time of year always feels a bit in-between.
Some of us are already thinking burgundy, chocolate brown and all the cosy autumn shades…
…and some of us are still holding onto the bright colours for as long as possible. 🙋♀️
And honestly? There are no seasonal rules at my nail desk.
If you want deep red in July — we’ll do it.
If you want bright pink in November — absolutely.
Your nails don’t need to match the weather. They just need to feel like you.
So I’m curious — are you already TEAM AUTUMN 🍂 or still TEAM COLOUR 🌈?

She sends me 3 or 4 nail designs she loves… and then gives up control. 😂
I choose which one we’re doing and she doesn’t find out until I’m finished.
This only works because she genuinely likes all the options — and because after doing her nails for a while, I know what she likes and she trusts me to choose.
And I have to admit, I LOVE it.
There’s something really fun about sitting at my nail desk knowing exactly what we’re creating while the person whose hands I’m working on has absolutely no idea. 😂
It’s also one of those little things I love about having regular clients. You get to know their style, what they’ll wear, what they’ll probably say no to… and eventually you can get away with things like this.
The reveal is always the best bit.
Would you trust your nail tech to choose from your favourites — or would not knowing drive you mad? 😂

Her BIAB had worked perfectly for months.
Then suddenly she started coming back with breakages.
Same client. Same nail tech. Same service.
So instead of automatically doing exactly the same thing again, I stopped and looked at what had changed.
Where were the nails breaking? Had her routine changed? Was the length still working for her? Did we need to change the structure or try a different product?
Because sometimes something that worked brilliantly for you before simply isn’t the best option for your nails right now.
In this case, we’re going to trial Polygel and see how her nails respond.
No promises. No pretending I already know the answer.
We’ll try it, watch how she gets on and reassess at her next appointment.
That’s a big part of natural nail care for me — paying attention instead of just repeating the same service because “that’s what we always do.”

Sometimes the most important part of an appointment has nothing to do with the nails.
People come into my little nail studio in Celbridge for BIAB, gel polish or Polygel — but real life doesn’t suddenly stop at the door.
Some days we laugh for the whole appointment. Sometimes we talk about everything and anything. Sometimes someone just wants to sit quietly.
And sometimes a client gets upset, has a little cry and then apologises for it.
Please don’t.
You never need to come into my studio feeling like you have to be cheerful or chatty. If you want to talk, I’m here. If you’d rather sit quietly with your coffee while I do your nails, that’s absolutely fine too.
Of course I want you to leave with beautiful nails.
But when someone leaves my table feeling even a little bit better than when they sat down?
That’s a pretty lovely part of this job too. 🤍
Are you a talk-through-the-whole-appointment person, or do you sometimes prefer the quiet?

You really don’t need to arrive at your nail appointment knowing exactly what you want.
Sometimes clients have the whole thing planned — colour, shape, design, everything.
And sometimes I get:
“I have absolutely no idea. What do you think?” 😂
I’m happy to suggest colours, shapes or ideas based on your nails and what I think could work beautifully.
But there’s one thing I’ll always come back to:
Do YOU actually like it?
Because something can technically suit your hands and still not feel like you at all.
Maybe everyone is wearing a certain colour right now and you hate it.
Maybe almond would elongate your fingers, but you’ve always loved square nails.
Then that matters more.
My job isn’t to decide what you should like. It’s to give you my professional opinion, help you narrow things down and then create something that still feels like you.
That’s very much how appointments work in my private nail studio in Celbridge.
So if choosing your nail colour takes half the appointment… don’t worry. We’ll get there 😂
Save this for your next “I have absolutely no idea what I want” appointment.
Your nails do NOT need to look good before you come to see me.
You don’t need to apologise for the growth.
You don’t need to explain the broken nail.
You definitely don’t need to tidy your cuticles before coming.
And if it’s been months since your last nail appointment? That’s absolutely fine too.
I’d much rather see your nails exactly as they are.
It actually gives me useful information about how they’ve been wearing, where you might be struggling and what we can do differently this time.
My job as a nail technician isn’t to judge the nails you arrive with.
It’s to look after them and help you leave my private Celbridge studio feeling much better about them than when you walked in.
So please… no emergency DIY manicure in the car before your appointment 😂
Send this to the friend who always apologises for her nails.
Sometimes the quickest way to grow your nails longer is to stop trying to keep every bit of length.
It sounds backwards, I know.
But if your natural nails have reached a length where they’re constantly catching, bending or breaking at the corners, keeping that extra length isn’t always helping.
Sometimes I’ll suggest taking them slightly shorter, improving the shape or adjusting the structure and letting them grow from a stronger starting point.
Especially with BIAB or polygel on natural nails, my goal isn’t simply to make them as long as possible.
I want the length to actually work for your nails and your everyday life.
And that can look completely different from one client to another.
If you’re trying to grow your natural nails but keep getting stuck in the grow → break → start again cycle, save this one.
Something I’ve realised after years of doing nails…
Clients absolutely care about their nails.
They notice the shape, the colour, how well they last and all those tiny details I probably obsess over more than they realise 😄
But that’s not the only thing they remember.
They remember whether they felt comfortable.
Whether they were listened to.
Whether they could relax instead of feeling rushed.
Whether coming for their nails felt like another thing they had to get done… or actually became a nice part of their day.
That’s shaped the kind of nail studio I’ve wanted to create in Celbridge just as much as learning how to do better BIAB, gel polish and natural nail services.
I want the nails to be beautiful.
But I want the couple of hours you spend getting them done to feel good too.
If that sounds like your kind of nail appointment, follow along — you’ll probably feel at home here.
If the same nail keeps causing trouble, I usually want to know why.
Maybe it keeps breaking in the same place. Maybe you notice lifting on one particular nail, while the rest are absolutely fine.
Rather than just fixing it and moving on, I like to look for a pattern.
Sometimes it can be the way that particular nail is used in everyday life, a natural weak point, the length or structure, how long the product has been worn, or something about the service that needs adjusting.
And sometimes there isn’t one obvious answer straight away.
That’s part of working with natural nails — they’re not all identical, and neither are the hands or lifestyles attached to them.
So during BIAB, gel polish and polygel appointments in my Celbridge nail studio, I’m not looking for someone to blame when something chips, lifts or breaks.
I’m looking for clues that can help us get a better result next time.
If you have one nail that’s always the troublemaker, save this for the next time it happens — noticing the pattern can actually be useful.
