I used to be embarrassed by being disabled and in a wheelchair. I hid it in every way I could. The videos done in the car. Would never leave the car. Used crutches even when my knee began crumbling. I used to hide the crutches in early videos and be terrified if I saw my skinny legs in the sketch. Was afraid to get pictures with people in case you could see my legs. Then I slowly began to realise that this is the only body I have and the only one I will ever have. I grew in confidence when parents of disabled children told me that they look up to me for not letting my disability get to me. I 'came out' as it was publicly about it 3 years ago and haven't looked back. Did anyone care? No. Did it change what people thought of me? No. Did it change me? Yes, and for the better.
Be proud of who you are, and if a cripple lad like me can end up cycling a bike for charity then you can do feckin anything!!!!
