Stress greatly affects the condition of the skin. What to do with it?

During stress, a fairly large amount of hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline are produced in the human body - they affect the body as a whole and, in particular, the skin. Directly on the skin, this is manifested by a decrease in its immune defense reaction, due to which more inflammation may appear, and an increase in the level of adrenaline increases the production of sebum, which also affects the increase in the number of inflammations on the skin. Also, due to a decrease in the immune response of the skin, oxidative stress manifests itself, that is, the effect of free radicals increases.

Another sign of the effect of stress on the skin is an increase in dryness of the skin, its dehydration. If you describe the condition of the skin that is under the influence of stress, then it is usually dry, dehydrated skin, often with enlarged pores (due to increased production of sebum) and areas of peeling. If there is a tendency to acne, then there may be an exacerbation of inflammation on the skin. In the presence of diseases of rosacea, rosacea, acne - they can manifest. Sometimes there is a manifestation of these skin diseases in moments of general stress, even if they are absent during a quiet life.

How can skin stress be prevented?

Since the root cause of skin stress is the general stress of the body, preventive measures are primarily related to lifestyle. The very first step is to establish or restore the normal mode of sleep and wakefulness, that is, to establish a normal mode of circadian rhythms. You need to sleep 7-8 hours a day. The next step is to establish a drinking regime, that is, to consume enough water per day (at the rate of 35 ml per 1 kg of body weight), so that an average of about two liters of water per day is obtained. The menu is recommended to include more vegetables, fruits and fish (which contains a large amount of omega-3 acids).
