Granny Mary passed away this morning.

Any of my clients on here will know exactly who she was because I loved talking about her. She was my favourite client of all. I used to travel up to Derry just to cut her hair and have our chats. Even when she went into the home I still went. We were as thick as thieves.
Every single time I’d leave her she’d say, “you’re a lovely may” and we would both be in fits laughing.

She was so good to me as a little girl. Truly one of the safest warmest people I’ve ever known. The kind of woman who made you feel adored without even trying.

I honestly don’t think I realised how much of my heart lived inside that woman until today.

Goodnight Granny Mary. I hope wherever you are your hair is perfect.

What pi**es me off is when I see a full head of highlights with a root shadow slapped on top and called a “lived in colour”.

That’s not lived in colour. That’s highlights with a darker root.

Real lived in colour is placement, diffusion, depth, softness, balance and knowing how to create brightness without making the hair look stripy, overworked or solid blonde from root to ends. It’s knowing where to leave hair out just as much as where to lighten it.
