Help protect Malahide’s coastline and promote sustainable transport in our community.
Join us to take action on 19th of May, at 4pm, Low Rock Malahide, restore our environment, and drive real local change.
At this event, you will meet the project initiator and connect with new friends who share your passion for the coast.
This gathering is open to everyone, so bring your neighbours, your family, and your ideas.
We will walk around the Low Rock area together, cleaning the coastline as we chat and get to know one another.
To make it easy for you to jump in, all gloves and rubbish bags will be provided and managed by the event leader on the day.
To walk the talk, we ask that you arrive by bicycle or on foot. Please leave the car behind.
This meeting is our first collective step toward a community goal of reducing CO2e emissions by 1 tonne. Reducing your driving by about 5,000 miles (8,000 km) in a standard petrol car saves 1 tonne.
And remember! There is no Planet B, so let’s start saving this one together.

Malahide & Rush Say Goodbye to Disposable Cups, and Hello to a Cleaner, Greener Future!
Something exciting is brewing in Malahide and Rush, and it’s not just the coffee!
We’re launching a six-month pilot in May 2025, in partnership with reusable cup tech experts VYTAL. If you need them, participating cafés will offer reusable takeaway cups, and it’s easy for customers to use. Just borrow a cup, enjoy your drink, then return it at any participating location (within 14 days)*
🗓️ Don’t miss our Info Day – Saturday 10th May
Meet our high-vis-wearing volunteers around Malahide and Rush; enjoy free coffees at participating cafés, and learn how the system works.
This summer, Rush and Malahide are joining a growing movement to tackle packaging waste, starting with one of the biggest everyday offenders: the single-use (disposable) coffee cup. Inspired by the hugely successful Killarney Cup Project (which kept over 1 million cups out of the bin in just one year!), Fingal County Council are supporting our communities as we say “no more” to throwaway culture.
The Fingal Reusable Cup Project is an ambitious, community-powered initiative aiming to make Malahide and Rush completely single-use cup free by 2026. Backed by passionate volunteers, local groups like Rush Tidy Towns, Malahide Lions Club, Malahide Chamber, St. Sylvester’s Parish Council, Malahide Tidy Towns, local sports clubs and schools, and supported by a network of forward-thinking retailers, this project proves that real change starts at the local level.
Why does this matter? Packaging waste is one of the biggest contributors to marine pollution—single-use bags, bottles, containers, and wrappers make up almost half of all waste found in our oceans. Even though Ireland is planning a national disposable cup levy, reusable packaging still accounts for only 2% of all packaging in use. Clearly, we need bold action.
That’s where you come in.
It's easy to support this project, all you have to do is say no to disposable cups. You could sit-in (and drink from a real cup), bring your own reusable cup, or if you forget your cup then borrow a VYTAL cup, for free!
