I feel deeply emotional about Oncology đ
Thisâs part of the clinical area where I wouldnât want to find myself practicing.
I worked in general surgery dept for 24 months and saw the hell my patients go through before they finally pass away.
I DEDICATE THIS POST TO EVERY PERSON WHO HAS FACED CANCER WITH COURAGE AND TO THOSE WHOSE LIVES WERE TAKEN BY IT
To those who are still fightingđŞ
your strength is seen, even on the days when you feel at your weakest. Every step you take, every moment you endure, speaks of a resilience that words can hardly capture. You carry not only the weight of the illness, but the quiet determination to keep going, and that is something deeply powerful.
To those we have lostđ
your lives were far more than your illness. You were loved, valued, and unforgettable. The memories you leave behind continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew you, shaping their lives in ways that never fade. Your absence is felt, but so is your presenceâin stories, in laughter remembered, in love that remains.
Cancer may take much, but it can never take away the dignity, humanity, and meaning of a life lived. This is a reminder that behind every diagnosis is a person, a story, a family, and a world that matters.
May we continue to honor those who have passed by remembering them fully, and support those still fighting with compassion, patience, and care. No one walks this path aloneâthey are carried in the thoughts, love, and strength of many.

How does the society perceive a child with intellectual disability?âŚHave you imagined the struggle their families go through and do they get support from the government?
In my home country the answer is No I donât know about yoursâŚ
Letâs talk about HAPPY PARENTING OF A CHILD WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY.
What is INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY?đ¤
Intellectual disability is a condition in which a person has limitations in intellectual functioning (such as learning, reasoning, and problem-solving) and difficulties with everyday adaptive skills (like communication, self-care, or social interaction). These challenges begin during the developmental years (before adulthood).
HAPPY PARENTING đ
Happy parenting of a child with an intellectual disability is not about denying challengesâit is about discovering joy, meaning, and growth within a different but deeply rewarding journey. While such parenting may come with unique responsibilities, it also offers powerful opportunities to build strong emotional bonds, celebrate small victories, and redefine what happiness and success truly mean.
âAt the heart of happy parenting is acceptanceâ đ
When parents embrace their child for who they are, rather than focusing on comparisons with others, they create a foundation of unconditional love. This acceptance helps the child feel valued and secure, which is essential for their emotional development. It also allows parents to shift their mindsetâfrom âfixing limitationsâ to ânurturing abilities.â
Another key aspect is celebrating progress, no matter how small. For a child with an intellectual disability, milestones may come at a different pace. Learning a new word, completing a simple task independently, or expressing emotions clearly can be huge achievements. Recognizing and celebrating these moments brings daily joy and reinforces the childâs confidence.
Patience and flexibility are equally important. Parenting any child requires patience, but in this context, it becomes a central strength. Adapting expectations, routines, and teaching methods to suit the childâs needs helps reduce frustration for both parent and child. Over time, this flexibility builds resilience and a deeper understanding within the family.
Happy parenting also involves creating a supportive environment. This includes working with educators, therapists, and support groups, but also fostering a home atmosphere filled with encouragement and positivity. When parents feel supported, they are better able to support their child. Connecting with other families in similar situations can also reduce feelings of isolation and provide practical insights.
Importantly, parents should not overlook their own well-being. Self-care is not selfish rather necessary. Taking time to rest, pursue personal interests, or seek emotional support ensures that parents remain strong and present. A happy and balanced parent is better equipped to provide love and stability.
Finally, happy parenting is about finding meaning in the journey. Many parents describe how raising a child with an intellectual disability has deepened their empathy, patience, and appreciation for lifeâs simple moments. It can strengthen family bonds and bring a unique perspective on what truly matters.
In the end, happiness in this journey is not defined by perfection or ease, but by love, growth, and connection. With acceptance, patience, and a supportive mindset, parenting a child with an intellectual disability can be a profoundly joyful and fulfilling experience.

Back in the years as a new graduate nurse,I saw some of my senior colleagues turn to a prayer warrior on dutyđ
You are expected to learn the good practices and drop the bad ones in nursing.
Thatâs why I want to talk about CULTURAL AWARENESS IN NURSING PRACTICE.
How do I become a cultural awareness nurse?đ¤
CULTURAL AWARENESS IN NURSING
Cultural awareness in nursing refers to understanding and recognizing the cultural differences, beliefs, values, and traditions that influence a patientâs health behaviors and decisions. It is an important part of providing respectful, patient-centered care in diverse healthcare environments. đđŠş
â
UNDERSTANDING CULTURAL AWARENESS
Cultural awareness means that nurses acknowledge that people come from different cultural backgrounds and that these backgrounds shape their views about health, illness, treatment, and care. It also involves being aware of oneâs own cultural beliefs and avoiding assumptions or stereotypes about others.
â
IMPORTANCE OF CULTURAL AWARENESS IN NURSING PRACTICE
Cultural awareness helps nurses provide better care by improving communication and building trust with patients. When patients feel respected and understood, they are more likely to share important health information and follow treatment plans. This leads to improved patient satisfaction and better health outcomes.
â
RESPECTING CULTURAL DIFFERENCES
Patients may have different beliefs related to diet, modesty, religion, family involvement, and medical treatments. A culturally aware nurse respects these beliefs and tries to accommodate them whenever possible. For example, some patients may prefer same-gender healthcare providers or may follow specific religious practices during illness.
â
IMPROVING COMMUNICATION
Language and communication styles can vary between cultures. Nurses should use simple language, listen carefully, and use interpreters when necessary to ensure patients clearly understand their care.
â
TO CONCLUDE
Cultural awareness is a key skill for nurses working in multicultural healthcare settings. By understanding and respecting cultural differences, nurses can create a supportive environment, improve communication, and provide safe and effective care for all patients. đ¤â¨

BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT (BBL)âď¸
In a world where many people try to appear perfect, rich, popular, or successful, being natural and real has become rare. Social media, peer pressure, and the desire for approval often push people to hide who they truly are. They wear masks, pretending to be someone they are not. Yet, in the middle of all this, choosing to remain natural and real is one of the most powerful and courageous things a person can do. đż
Being natural means accepting yourself as you are. It means not pretending to be smarter, richer, cooler, or more important than you truly feel. A natural person speaks honestly, behaves sincerely, and does not feel the need to impress everyone. They understand that true value comes from character, not from appearance or popularity.
Being real also means staying true to your beliefs and emotions. Real people do not fake friendships, fake kindness, or fake happiness. If they care, they show it genuinely. If they make a mistake, they admit it and learn from it. Authenticity builds trust, and trust is something that fake behavior can never create.
The problem with a world full of fake people is that it often rewards appearances more than truth. People sometimes admire what looks good on the outside without realizing what lies beneath. But over time, fake images fade, while genuine character remains strong. A real person may not always attract attention quickly, but they earn something far more valuableârespect and meaningful relationships.
Being natural and real does not mean being perfect. It means being honest about your imperfections. It means laughing freely, speaking truthfully, and living according to your values rather than constantly seeking approval. This kind of authenticity brings peace of mind because you are not carrying the heavy burden of pretending.
In the end, the world does not need more fake perfection. It needs more real peopleâpeople who are honest, kind, and unafraid to be themselves. When you choose to stay natural in a world full of masks, you become a refreshing presence, someone who reminds others that authenticity is still powerful and still beautiful. â¨

Letâs talk about IPC.â
I worked in the paediatric emergency room some years back and I remember at some certain time of the year we usually get so busy with babies coming down with diarrhoea but do you know that proper hand hygiene measures can drastically reduce the incidence of this infection.
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Measures â Letâs Focus on Hand Hygiene đ§źđĽ
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) refers to practices used in healthcare settings to prevent the spread of infections among patients, healthcare workers, and visitors. Effective IPC measures help reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), protect staff, and improve patient safety. One of the most important and effective IPC measures is proper hand hygiene(Many neglect this)â ď¸
Hand Hygieneâ
Definition of Hand Hygiene?
Hand hygiene refers to the cleaning of hands to remove dirt, microorganisms, and harmful pathogens using either:
⢠Soap and water
⢠Alcohol-based hand rub (ABHR)
âď¸Hand hygiene is considered the single most effective action to reduce the spread of infections in healthcare settings.
When Hand Hygiene Should Be Performed?
(Hand hygiene should be done always)
Please make it a habit đ
Healthcare workers should perform hand hygiene at critical moments during patient care.
These moments include:
1. Before touching a patient
2. Before performing clean or aseptic procedures
3. After exposure to body fluids
4. After touching a patient
5. After touching the patientâs surroundings
Performing hand hygiene at these times prevents microorganisms from spreading between patients and healthcare workers.
Methods of Hand Hygieneâ
Funny enough a lot of people donât know how to wash hands.proper washing of your hands can save you fortune.
âď¸Hand Washing with Soap and Water
This method is used when hands are visibly dirty or contaminated.
Steps for Proper Hand Washingâ
1. Wet hands with clean running water
2. Apply enough soap to cover all hand surfaces
3. Rub palms together
4. Rub the back of both hands
5. Interlace fingers and clean between them
6. Clean fingertips and under nails
7. Rub thumbs and wrists
8. Rinse hands thoroughly
9. Dry with a clean towel or disposable paper towel
10. Use the towel to turn off the tap
Hand washing should take at least 40â60 seconds.
B. Alcohol-Based Hand Rub (Hand Sanitizer)
Alcohol-based hand rub is recommended when hands are not visibly soiled.
Steps for Using Hand Rubâ
1. Apply a palmful of sanitizer
2. Rub palms together
3. Rub the back of hands
4. Interlace fingers
5. Rub fingertips and thumbs
6. Continue rubbing until hands are dry
This process should take 20â30 seconds.

Letâs discuss SMAđŻ
Not SMA gold formula đ
I managed this case for 12 months
â
Whatâs spinal muscular atrophy (SMA)
SMA is a genetic condition that affects the nerve cells (motor neurons) in the spinal cord. These nerve cells control voluntary muscle movementâlike sitting, walking, swallowing, and breathing. When they donât work properly, muscles become weak and shrink (atrophy).
â
What Causes SMA?
SMA is caused by a change (mutation) in a gene called SMN1 (Survival Motor Neuron 1)
SMA is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern, meaning a child must inherit one faulty gene from each parent.
â
Diagnosis
Newborn screening (in many countries)
Genetic blood test (confirms SMN1 mutation)
Sometimes nerve or muscle studies
Early diagnosis is critical because treatment works best when started early.
â
NURSING MANAGEMENT OF SMA:
Letâs focus on the goal of management as a Nurseđ
â
Respiratory Management (Priority Care)â ď¸
⢠Monitor respiratory rate, effort, and oxygen saturation
⢠Assess for signs of respiratory distress (retractions, nasal flaring, fatigue)
⢠Position child upright or semi-Fowlerâs to improve lung expansion
⢠Assist with airway clearance
⢠Chest physiotherapy
⢠Suctioning when necessary
⢠Cough assist devices
⢠Administer prescribed oxygen therapy (if indicated)
⢠Support use of non-invasive ventilation (BiPAP/CPAP)
⢠Educate parents on recognizing early respiratory infection signs
đŤ Prevent respiratory infections:
⢠Encourage vaccinations (including influenza)
⢠Promote hand hygiene
⢠Limit exposure to sick contacts
â
Nutritional Support
Weak swallowing muscles can cause poor feeding and aspiration risk.
Nursing Interventions:
⢠Monitor weight and growth patterns
⢠Assess swallowing ability
⢠Observe for choking and coughing during feeds.
⢠Provide small, frequent feeds
⢠Position upright during and after feeding (30â45 minutes)
⢠Collaborate with speech and dietitian teams
⢠Prepare for NG tube or gastrostomy feeding if needed
â
Mobility & Musculoskeletal Care
Muscle weakness can lead to contractures and scoliosis.
Nursing Interventions:
⢠Encourage range-of-motion (ROM) exercises
⢠Assist with physiotherapy programs
⢠Reposition every 2 hours to prevent pressure sores
⢠Use supportive devices (braces, orthotics, wheelchairs)
⢠Monitor spine alignment for scoliosis
⢠Ensure proper body alignment
â
Skin Integrity
Children with limited mobility are at risk for pressure ulcers
Nursing Interventions:
⢠Frequent repositioning
⢠Inspect skin daily
⢠Use pressure-relieving mattresses
⢠Keep skin clean and dry
⢠Apply protective barriers as needed
â
Medication & Treatment Support
Children may be receiving:
⢠Gene therapy
⢠Nusinersen (intrathecal)
⢠Risdiplam (oral)
Nursing Role
⢠Monitor for side effects
⢠Ensure adherence to therapy schedule
⢠Educate caregivers about treatment expectations
⢠Provide emotional support during procedures
â
Psychosocial & Family Support
SMA is emotionally challenging for families.
Nursing Interventions:
⢠Provide clear education about disease progression
⢠Offer emotional reassurance
⢠Encourage family participation in care
⢠Connect families with support groups
⢠Discuss advanced care planning when appropriate
⢠Advocate for school and community inclusion.
đ§ Cognitive development is usually normal â encourage age-appropriate learning and social interaction.
â
Developmental Support
⢠Encourage play activities suited to childâs abilities
⢠Promote independence where possible
⢠Support school integration
⢠Collaborate with occupational therapy
â
Palliative & End-of-Life Care (Severe Cases)
For severe SMA (especially Type 1):
⢠Focus on comfort measures
⢠Manage pain and dyspnea
⢠Provide family-centered end-of-life support
⢠Respect cultural and spiritual needs
