Let’s talk Retinol Vs Retinoid
In short, retinols and retinoids are both forms of vitamin A.
They provide similar anti-aging results but due to the different molecular structure retinols convert more slowly.
It’s good to be aware that retinoids are FDA approved. Which means their effectiveness has been proven during clinical trials. Making retinoids only accessible with a prescriptions. Individuals with sever acne and or scarring would be best to invest in a prescription retinoid.
While retinols are available over the counter and recommended for most to prevent and reverse signs of aging and acne scarring.
Retinol products I have used and would recommend & wont break the bank:
- 0.2% retinol in squalane: the best no-frills product best for starting your retinol journey in my opinion
- Crystal Retinal 1 serum: best for sensitive skin
- Retinol 0.3% + vitamin B3 serum
If you have never used a retinol serum before please start off SLOW !
Retinols and Retinoids are known to cause flare up, breakouts and dry skin.
You should build up your skins tolerance by only using once or twice a week to start and slowly increasing frequency.
