Anyone that knows Kelly will agree that she is destined for the stage. She is one of the most naturally gifted performers I have ever worked with but also has the work ethic and character to support it.

What’s in your tool box? 🧰

Over the years I experimented with practices that would help me achieve my goals. I quickly realised these were vital for success.

🔨So I focused on them, refined them and eventually I started to see results. Now I want to share them with you!

Different things work for different people. So, apply these, adapt them to suit you and mould them into your own toolbox.

I do have more but wiill share them in good time.

Shin Splints!

Has there ever been a dancer who hasn’t experienced them?

They are the biggest nuisance of an injury ever. You can kind of dance with them / kind of can’t. Sometimes they are fine when you’re dancing and as soon as you stop you’re in agony.

Don’t worry! This series of posts will help you understand them better, apply techniques to reduce the pain, and practice habits to prevent them in future. So you won’t have to struggle with them again.

Stay tuned!

You have to feel it to believe it.

To be honest, reading this in text doesn't do it justice. There is nothing like the feeling of stepping down from the massage table and feeling completely relaxed, almost like your walking on air. Or having the freedom to move in a way that you couldn't before. No instagram post will ever recreate that feeling.

It's one that needs to be experienced, not read!

It's really quite simple!

In theory...

1. Understand how the body works,

2. Restore back to its natural state,

3. Maintain strength and mobility.

The dysfunction we have is never one dimensional or follows the exact same patterns. However, the structures in our bodies behave in similar ways. If we understand these behaviours, we can use a certain set of principals and adapt them to any dysfunction within the body to get the desired results.

Example: Muscle tissue or "collagen fibre" is sticky in nature and has a tendency to adhere or "stick" together. Tissue responds well to heat and friction, so by applying certain techniques we can break down these adhesions and create a suppleness within the muscle to create healthy tissue.

So, understanding the structures gives us rationale behind the methods to use. Which in turn improves the result of the treatment.

Get it?

"It's just hard to find someone who understands dancers"

This is something I said as I was competing, and it's something I hear a lot from dancers, parents and teachers. There are many brilliant therapists out there, and I am not discrediting any one them, but having lived the life of a dancer gives a unique perspective.

Sometimes it's more than just the treatment, it's about being able to relate to the distress from missing a major competition that you worked so hard for, or having growing pains for 6/7/8 months, or the uncertainty of when you can dance again.

Whatever hardship you are going through, I have probably been through it too. But now there are more solutions to these questions. Stay tuned to this page as I hope to share tips and tricks that can help you move through these struggles.
