As most of you know I have been on maternity leave now since Sept and oh man is time flying by. My baby girl is 17 weeks now and her own little personality is starting to shine through. She's smiling, laughing, rolliy and keeping us busy. Anyone any tips on how to get a baby to take a bottle, no? Oh ya and she also knows what she wants, and it's not a bottle 😂
I'm starting to get a few messages from clients looking to book in and wondering when I am back so I wanted to update you all on my return to work. With 6 months maternity leave ,7 weeks parental leave and holidays, I am due to return to work in May, however I will be opting to take unpaid leave and stay off during the summer months, spend time with the three kids, and return to work hopefully around September.
However, and here's where it gets hard, I will NOT be reopening the salon at my home. As our family has gotten bigger this year our need for space has also increased. The salon at home was great while we had the space but obviously it is our family home first so unfortunately this means the salon must go. It wasn't an easy decision to make but a necessary decision for our family.
Before the messages start coming in, I will let you know that I have not yet decided where I will be working when I return to work but I will keep everyone updated as I know more. The downturn in the hair industry since covid and the cost of inflation has me trying to decide what is right for me and my business at the minute. As of right now I am just enjoying my time with my little lady.

This one was such a difference and I am so thankful I remembered a before picture! We have experimented with different tones over the blonde over the years but when we changed to red a few weeks ago the red was washing out too fast (I mean look at how blonde it faded back to) so we toned down the blonde before adding to give a beautiful rich, vibrant red. Anyways, hope ya'll like it!

How dare you!
How dare you charge a fee when you didn’t deliver the treatment!
Crazy right?
Actually, nope.
Booking deposits, and cancellation fees are becoming a very common factor in the salon world.
And you know what?
THEY SHOULD BE.
Think of it like this…
Could you call British Airways after no showing for your flight and expect a refund?
Nope.
Could you imagine calling Virgin Atlantic and asking them for a seat on their Saturday 10:30am flight to Barbados, but you’ll pay when you get there?
Nope.
Could you imagine calling easyJet and telling them you can’t make the flight leaving in an hour but you’d like a seat for free on the flight an hour later?
Nope.
We work like a flight. Once the plane has gone, the seat has lost its money.
Same as your space.
Imagine arriving into work at the office and being told last minute that actually you weren’t needed for the next few hours.. but you will be unpaid through no fault of your own. Time you allocated to work to earn a living and you just have to take the pay cut without a choice!
When you work in a business where you trade time for money, time IS money.
So when people don’t want to pay for your time, and you put it on loan with no collateral, you risk losing that money.
Now, I know times are tough and odd and weird.
Costs are rising.
People are worried about money.
But we aren’t talking about booking vs not booking.
We are talking about booking space and paying for it vs not paying for it.
That’s very different.
Booking deposits and cancellation policies are in place to -
Protect the salon owner
Reassure the client
Make an agreement between two parties, official.
An agreement that says you’ll give your time, in exchange for money.
A salon owner should never feel guilty for putting a £ sign on their time or product.
It’s what every single business has ever done in the entire history of time.
Except the ones that didn’t. And they didn’t last.

Spring is here, it's time to brighten up the wardrobe AND YOUR HAIR.
This mornings client opted for a full head of back to back highlights, a quick bleach wash on the ends after rinsing to lift them a bit brighter and remove the old toner, fresh toner and treatment.
We opted for a brighter money piece and introduced a lovely long bang to change up the front. Didn't get a picture though because, school run, woops! Next time.
