Skin can behave very differently during and after cancer treatment — and not always in the ways people expect.

Sensitivity isn’t always visible. Skin may appear settled, but can react quickly to products, temperature, or touch.

At the same time, the skin barrier is often more fragile, which means that treatments and routines that once worked well may no longer be suitable.

What’s also important to understand is that these changes are not static. Skin can shift from one stage to another, meaning what feels comfortable one month may not feel right the next.

This is why a more considered approach is needed — one that adapts over time, rather than relying on fixed routines or standard treatments.

In many cases, it’s not about doing more. It’s about understanding what the skin is able for at that moment and responding accordingly — helping clients feel more comfortable in their skin as it changes.

Supporting clients during and after cancer treatment requires a very different approach.

Treatments, medication and stress on the body can all affect the skin — often leading to increased sensitivity, dryness, fragility, and changes in how it responds.

Through specialist training with Oncology Training International, my focus is on understanding these changes and adapting treatments in a way that is both safe and supportive at each stage.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach. What feels right for one person may not be suitable for another, which is why time is taken to listen, assess and respond carefully.

For many clients, the goal isn’t just visible improvement. It’s about feeling comfortable, cared for, and able to feel a little better in your own skin.

Skin doesn’t always respond well to doing more.
Many common concerns — dryness, sensitivity or breakouts — are often linked to a combination of factors rather than one single cause.
It’s quite easy to fall into the habit of adding more products or increasing the use of active ingredients, especially when trying to see results more quickly. In some cases, this can actually leave the skin feeling more unsettled.
A more effective approach is usually to take a step back, understand what the skin needs, and build consistency from there.
This is where consultation becomes important. Taking the time to assess the skin properly allows treatments to be adapted in a way that supports long-term improvement.
