FOUR Months today since I had to say goodbye to my best pal and what a hard 4 months it’s being. It’s being Mixed emotions of heartache, love, anger, guilt and so much more…

Death is such a hard, confusing, painful thing but one thing I can say is that it was an HONOUR to mind my Dad till the very end. I was blessed to be able To take care of him at the hardest times and still be able to laugh.

Dementia or not he was still as clever. He managed to pretend to take his tablets whilst hiding them in a sweet tin and nearly poisoning poor Mum when he ‘kindly’ let her have one. In the mornings he tried to make me take a bite out of a pancake that had his crushed meds in. Lying in bed having his breakfast, ‘No you eat it..’ 🫣There was no fooling Brian Spain. !!

He brought us all such joy and happiness and he danced till the very end, getting excited over the smallest thing and always trying to entertain us. Forever the joker. I didn’t know if I would be able to care for a parent but even on the hardest days he made you smile. If he upset you, he apologised as he didn’t mean to but his mind was telling another thing.

I miss him so much every day, one night I might eventually get to sleep 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ he was the best Dad in the world and as hard as it was I loved ‘Dementia Dad’ as he just kept us entertained till the very end. T

The morning before he died he stood at his bedroom door at 8am and said, ‘Here I am, Brian Spain’ and broke out laughing, it’s a silly little moment but one I’ll cherish for ever!! 🫶😂 Love you Dad, you were the best 💙

Happy Christmas Dad. Miss you so much, I didn’t think it was possible to be this 💔 … no doubt you’re somewhere sharing a pint of the black stuff with your brother & sisters. All together at last 💙🩷 Thank you Dad for being the best father any children could ask for 🤗 🫶

To my best friend in the whole world. I’m beyond heart broken that you are gone 💔 i genuinely don’t know what I will do without you. 😢 From The laughs, banter, dancing and yes some grumpy 😠 moments we had, I’ve loved it all. I’m so glad that I got the care for you till the very end.

To all our private carers who loved him like he was their own grandad and made sure he stayed out of trouble 😆 and that he stayed at home till the very end, I will forever be grateful. You kept his wish and without you fabulous ladies that would never have being able to happen.

And lastly to my family who were there to share all the the good times and enjoy the fabulous life that Dad/Grandad/Great Grandad gave us all.

Wherever you are Dad, I hope you’re enjoying a pint of Guinness 🍺 reunited with your brother and sisters.
