When you hear the word cauldron, you might picture a bubbling potion, a crooked wooden spoon and a very busy witch. 🧙♀️
In reality, a small ritual cauldron can be used in lots of simple and meaningful ways.
You could use one to:
✨ hold crystals or dried botanicals
🌿 create a seasonal altar display
📝 collect written intentions
🌙 hold small offerings during a ritual
🕯️ display an LED candle or other altar pieces
🔥 safely burn suitable materials, but only if your cauldron is designed for heat
They’re also lovely for money bowls, manifestation bowls, protection blends or simply adding a little quiet magic to your space.
There’s no single “correct” way to use a cauldron. It can be practical, symbolic, decorative or a mixture of all three.
The most important thing is choosing a use that feels meaningful to you — and always checking whether your particular cauldron is suitable before using any flame, charcoal or burning herbs inside it.
Cauldrons are available from Violet Moon. You can have a look at the current selection through the link in bio, or send me a message if you’d like help choosing one. ✨
Thinking of using a cauldron as a money bowl? I’ve shared a complete step-by-step guide on the Violet Moon blog, including ingredients, intentions and ways to keep your bowl active.
What would you use a little cauldron for?

Lion’s Gate Portal — 8 August 🦁✨
You may have heard people talking about the Lion’s Gate Portal, but what exactly is it?
The Lion’s Gate Portal is a modern spiritual and astrological observance associated with 8 August, during Leo Season. It’s commonly linked with the star Sirius returning to the morning sky, the symbolism of Leo and the numerological significance of 8/8. In spiritual practice, these ideas are brought together as a symbolic “gateway” for confidence, personal growth, abundance and setting intentions.
The word portal doesn’t mean that a physical doorway opens in the sky. It’s a spiritual way of describing a period that some people choose to use for reflection, manifestation and reconnecting with what they genuinely want to create.
The astronomical timing of Sirius’s first visible morning appearance varies depending on location, viewing conditions and the year, so it doesn’t occur everywhere on exactly 8 August. The fixed 8/8 date is mainly part of the modern spiritual and numerological tradition.
Because this falls during Leo Season, the Lion’s Gate Portal is often connected with:
🦁 courage and self-confidence
💛 heart-led choices
✨ creativity and self-expression
🌿 personal growth
🌟 abundance and opportunity
🔥 allowing yourself to be seen
You don’t need to perform a complicated ritual or put pressure on yourself to manifest an entirely new life today.
You could simply:
✨ light a candle and sit quietly with your intention
📝 write down one goal you’d genuinely like to nurture
🦁 reflect on where you’re ready to trust yourself more
💛 choose one practical step that supports your intention
🌿 focus on how you want to feel as you move forward
A helpful question for today might be:
What would I choose if I trusted myself a little more?
Manifestation isn’t only about wishing for something. It can also mean becoming clear about what you want, noticing opportunities and taking practical steps towards it.
Whether you work with the Lion’s Gate Portal spiritually or simply use 8 August as a moment for reflection, let it be a gentle invitation to recognise your strengths and move forward with intention.
What are you ready to approach with a little more courage?

Some growth happens quietly.
It takes root beneath the surface, little by little, before there’s anything obvious to see.
Moss Agate is often connected with patience, grounding, steady growth and the natural world, which makes it a lovely crystal to explore during the harvest season.
You might feel drawn to Moss Agate when you’re:
🌿 beginning something new
🌿 trying to build a habit slowly
🌿 feeling frustrated with your progress
🌿 wanting to reconnect with nature
🌿 nurturing your home, garden, creativity or business
🌿 learning to trust that slow progress is still progress
One simple way to work with it is to hold the stone while choosing one small, realistic intention.
Instead of asking:
“How can I change everything?”
Try asking:
“What’s one small thing I can keep nurturing?”
You could carry the crystal with you, leave it beside your journal or place it near the space connected with your intention.
There’s no need to use crystals in a complicated way. Sometimes they’re simply a physical reminder of the qualities we want to encourage in ourselves.
What are you allowing to grow slowly this August?

You don’t need a large altar or lots of special tools to mark Lúnasa.
A small shelf, tray, table or windowsill can become a lovely little space for gratitude, reflection and recognising what’s grown in your life.
Start with a simple base.
You could use a cloth in cream, green, gold, brown or any colour that feels warm and seasonal to you.
Then add something that represents the harvest, such as:
🌾 oats, wheat or barley
🍞 a small piece of bread
🍎 seasonal fruit
🌿 herbs or flowers from your garden
🕯️ a candle in a warm or earthy shade
You could also write down something you’re grateful for or something you’ve worked hard to nurture. Fold the note and place it on your altar.
Add something personal too, such as a crystal, a photograph, a handmade object or a natural item that feels meaningful to you.
When your altar is ready, sit beside it for a few quiet moments. Light your candle safely, take a few slow breaths and say:
“I give thanks for what has grown, and I offer patience to what’s still becoming.”
This is a simple modern practice inspired by the harvest themes of Lúnasa. There’s no right or wrong way to create it.
Use what you already have, make it personal and remember never to leave a burning candle unattended.
There are more simple ideas for marking the season in my full Lúnasa guide on the Violet Moon blog.

When we think of Lúnasa, we often think about harvest, gratitude and the first signs of abundance — but there’s also a lovely old tradition connected with this time of year: Fraughan Sunday. 💜
“Fraughan” is another name for the bilberry, a small dark wild berry that was traditionally gathered around the Lúnasa season.
In parts of Ireland, people would head to the hillsides to pick bilberries in late July or early August. These outings became tied to seasonal gatherings, local custom and the celebration of the first fruits of the land.
So while Lúnasa is often linked with grain and harvest, bilberries remind us that this season was also about:
🌿 gathering from the land
💜 noticing what nature was offering
🥾 spending time outdoors and in community
✨ marking the turning of the season in simple, practical ways
There’s something really beautiful about that.
It wasn’t always about doing a big formal ritual. Sometimes it was about being out in nature, gathering what was in season and sharing that experience with others.
If you’d like to honour that spirit in a gentle modern way, you could:
💜 go for a mindful walk in nature
💜 notice what plants and berries are in season around you
💜 make a simple seasonal offering of fruit or bread
💜 add berries, bramble leaves or hedgerow inspiration to a Lúnasa altar
💜 spend a little time reflecting on what you’re gathering in your own life
Of course, if you ever forage, it’s important to be sure of identification, gather responsibly and only take what is safe and permitted.
I love these kinds of traditions because they remind us that seasonal spirituality doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be rooted in the land, the time of year and the simple act of paying attention.
You can read more about Fraughan Sunday and the wider traditions of Lúnasa in the new Violet Moon blog.
Had you heard of Fraughan Sunday before?

It’s my birthday today, so I’ve been taking a little time to reflect on the past year — what’s changed, what’s grown and what I’m grateful to be carrying into the year ahead.
Violet Moon is such an important part of that, and I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who follows, supports, visits, shares a post or chooses something special from the shop. Every bit of support means more than you probably realise. 💜
Birthdays can sometimes make us focus on where we thought we’d be by now, but today I’m trying to notice the smaller things too — the lessons learned, the difficult moments made it through and the quiet progress that might not be obvious to anyone else.
Growth doesn’t always arrive as one huge, exciting moment. Sometimes it looks like:
🌿 setting a boundary you once found difficult
🌿 returning to something that matters to you
🌿 handling a situation more calmly than you used to
🌿 taking one practical step towards a goal
🌿 choosing rest before you completely burn yourself out
🌿 slowly beginning to trust yourself again
As I celebrate another trip around the sun, I’d love to ask you:
What’s something you’re proud of from the past year?

August begins with the harvest energy of Lúnasa and carries us through a month of reflection, courage, grounding and emotional release.
This month’s gentle reminder is:
Gather what’s grown. Ground yourself in what’s real. Grow at a pace you can actually sustain.
🌾 1 August — Lúnasa
A beautiful time to notice what’s growing, practise gratitude and celebrate the first signs of harvest.
🗝️ 3 August — Chiron Retrograde begins
This can be a reflective time for noticing old patterns, tending to emotional wounds and approaching healing with a little more kindness.
🌗 6 August — Last Quarter Moon
A quieter point in the lunar cycle for letting go, tying up loose ends and making space for something new.
🌑 12 August — New Moon in Leo and Solar Eclipse
A powerful moment connected with courage, self-trust and showing up as yourself. There’s no pressure to do a big eclipse ritual — resting and observing is more than enough.
🌓 20 August — First Quarter Moon
A time for small, steady action. You don’t need to have everything figured out. Just choose the next step.
♍ 23 August — Virgo Season begins
The energy becomes more practical and grounded, making this a lovely time for gentle routines, organisation and everyday care.
🌕 28 August — Full Moon in Pisces and Partial Lunar Eclipse
A reflective Full Moon connected with emotion, intuition, compassion and protecting your own energy.
Saturn, Neptune and Pluto also remain retrograde throughout August, so this month may feel less about racing ahead and more about slowing down, reviewing and moving with intention.
You don’t need to work with every event. Choose the ones that feel supportive and leave the rest.
Which August date are you most drawn to?
01/08/2026
Today we’re welcoming Lúnasa — the beginning of August and the start of the traditional harvest season. 🌾
It’s a lovely time to slow down for a moment and notice what’s been growing in your life.
That might be something big and exciting, but it might also be something much quieter — a new habit, a little more confidence, a lesson learned or a goal you’ve kept going with even when progress felt slow.
You don’t need to plan a big ritual to mark Lúnasa. You could simply:
✨ light a candle
🌾 place a little bread, oats, fruit or flowers on your altar
🤍 write down three things you’re grateful for
🌿 spend a few quiet moments outdoors
Keep it simple and make it your own.
A harvest isn’t only about reaching the finish line. It’s also about pausing to appreciate the care, effort and patience that brought you this far.
May this Lúnasa bring warmth to your home, steadiness to your path and plenty of reasons to feel grateful for what’s still growing.
What are you thankful for this Lúnasa?

✨ Closing July, Making Space for August ✨
As July comes to a close, this is a gentle moment to pause and reflect on the month that has passed.
July has brought emotional shifts, moments of clarity, opportunities for release, and reminders to trust your own rhythm. Before stepping into a new month, this is a beautiful time to notice what has changed, what has grown, and what you are ready to carry forward.
You might like to ask yourself:
🌙 What did July teach me?
🌙 What am I proud of, even in a small way?
🌙 What am I ready to leave behind?
🌙 What energy do I want to carry into August?
🌙 What feels ready to grow next?
This does not need to be complicated. It can be as simple as lighting a candle, journalling for a few quiet minutes, or taking a breath and acknowledging how far you have come.
You might like to say:
“I honour the lessons of this month. I release what no longer fits, and I make space for what is ready to grow.”
As we move towards Lughnasadh, this is also a lovely time to reflect on the seeds you have been tending — the effort, the growth, the quiet wins and the intentions beginning to take shape.
Close the month softly.
Carry forward what supports you.
Make space for what is next.

✨ Full Moon Reflection ✨
After the energy of the Full Moon in Aquarius, this is a gentle moment to pause and reflect on what has come to light.
Full Moons can bring clarity, emotion, release and a deeper awareness of what feels aligned — and what no longer does.
Now that the energy is beginning to settle, you might like to ask yourself:
🌕 What became clearer for me?
🌕 What am I ready to let go of?
🌕 What feels complete?
🌕 What am I being invited to carry forward with more honesty and intention?
Aquarius energy encourages perspective, freedom and truth. It reminds us to step back, see the bigger picture and release what feels limiting, outdated or out of alignment.
This does not need to be complicated. You might simply take a few quiet minutes to sit with your thoughts, journal what surfaced for you, or write down one thing you are ready to release.
You might like to say:
“I honour what this Full Moon has shown me. I release what no longer fits and make space for what feels true.”
Supportive crystals for reflection and release:
💜 Amethyst – clarity, calm and spiritual insight
🤍 Clear Quartz – focus, intention and energetic clarity
🖤 Smoky Quartz – grounding and release
🌈 Labradorite – inner guidance and transformation
Sometimes the most important shifts begin with a quiet moment of honesty.
