Rethink Your Drink!

Trying to lose weight? Watch out for those sneaky liquid calories! Sodas, juices, and alcoholic drinks are packed with hidden sugars and calories. Try to limit these or find low-sugar alternatives to keep your calorie intake in check.

Also be mindful of fancy coffees and teas which can be high in calories due to syrups, creamers, and whipped toppings. Choose black coffee or tea whenever possible. If you need a little sweetener add in a splash of milk with a small amount of honey or maple syrup.

Making small changes can lead to big results over time!

Feeling SAD?

Feeling down and low in energy as the days become shorter is a real thing. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) affects roughly 10 million Americans and is a form of depression that occurs from mid to late fall through to the early days of spring.

This season, improve your mood by ensuring you get outside each day during daylight. Considering light therapy may also help, as will staying connected socially, and maintaining a regular exercise routine. It’s also important to eat foods rich in Vit D and speak to your doctor about supplementation.

How’s your sleep? Do you feel well rested?

The darker days that come with late fall can disrupt sleep patterns. Maintain a consistent sleep schedule, create a calming bedtime routine and limit screen time at least 1 hour before bed.

In honor of World Mental Health Day, let’s check in.

How are you feeling? Is there a particular emotion that is dominant?

Do you feel tense or anxious? Or do you feel relaxed and calm?

What has been on your mind lately?

What activities or self-care practices help you feel grounded? Are you spending enough time doing these?

What small things can you appreciate today?

Pause and check in!

Answering these questions can help you get a better sense of where you’re at mentally and emotionally. If anything stands out, reflect on any changes you can make and always seek support if you need.

As the cooler weather and shorter days approach, staying active outdoors may become challenging. Do you need to re-evaluate and adjust your exercise routine?

-Consider switching to indoor exercises like yoga, swimming, or indoor home workouts.

-If you like the outdoors, do you need to shift to earlier workouts? Ensuring enough daylight is important to exercise safely.

-Do you need to layer up? Proper layering is key to maintain your core body heat protecting you from cold elements like wind, rain, snow and sleet.

Stay active and stay on track with some simple planning.

-Eat a diet rich in fiber: Load up on veggies and greens at every meal.

-Limit Alcohol Consumption: Reduce to no more than 2-3 drinks per week.
