Can Therapeutic Plasma Exchange influence biological ageing? 🧬🩸
TPE is being investigated as an emerging longevity intervention because ageing is associated with changes in circulating proteins, inflammatory signals and other plasma factors.
During Therapeutic Plasma Exchange:
• Plasma is separated from blood cells
• A measured volume of plasma is removed
• Blood cells are returned to the body
• Replacement fluid is selected according to the clinical protocol
Early animal research and small human biomarker studies have reported changes in inflammatory pathways, cellular senescence markers and circulating protein profiles after plasma dilution or exchange.
However, TPE is not yet an established anti-ageing treatment. Current human evidence is limited and conflicting, and it has not been proven to reverse ageing, extend lifespan or make someone a specific number of years younger.
Longevity-focused use should therefore be considered experimental and undertaken only after medical evaluation, appropriate investigations, informed consent and careful monitoring.

Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE) is a medical procedure in which a patient’s plasma is separated from blood cells and exchanged with replacement fluid such as albumin and/or plasma, depending on the clinical indication.
Plasma can carry many circulating substances, including:
• Autoantibodies and immune complexes
• Abnormal proteins and inflammatory mediators
• Certain protein-bound drugs or toxins
• Some circulating metals when bound to plasma proteins
• Lipoproteins and other plasma components
TPE is an established treatment for selected neurological, hematological, autoimmune and antibody-mediated disorders when clinically indicated.
🧬 TPE & ANTI-AGING / LONGEVITY
There is growing scientific interest in how the circulating plasma environment influences inflammation, cellular signaling and biological aging. Plasma exchange is therefore being investigated in longevity research—but TPE is not currently proven to reverse biological age or routinely “detox” healthy people.
