If You are caring a COVID Positive person at Home:
1. Use Face Mask:
o Please wear a triple layer (surgical) mask always;
o Never touch the front part of the mask while wearing it or during use;
o Remove & replace the mask if it gets moist/ wet or dirty with your nose/mouth secretions;
o Discard the mask after use in a separate dust bin, disinfect it and wash your hands with soap & water/ hand sanitizer after disposal of the soiled/ used mask.
o Please avoid touching your own face, nose or mouth as your hand might be contaminated.
2. Effective Hand hygiene practices:
o Always clean/ wash your hands after coming in contact with ill person or his/ her close surroundings.
o Make it a norm as daily practice in day today life to wash your hands before & after preparing food, before & after eating, after using the toilet, and whenever your hands get dirty.
o While using soap & water, wash your hands for at least for 40 seconds. o After using soap & water, dry your hands, preferably using disposable paper towels/tissuepaper.
Otherwise, use a separate clean cloth towels and replace & wash them regularly when they become wet.
o You shall serve an ill person using gloves.
Wash your hands before and after removing gloves.
3. Protect yourself:
o Avoid direct contact with body secretions of the sick person, especially oral, nasal or respiratory secretions. Always use disposable gloves while handling sick persons.
o Avoid sharing items used by a sick person, be it eating utensils, dishes, drinks, used towels, bed linen or even ci******es);
o Provide the food to the patient regularly in his/ her room. The used utensils & dishes shall always be cleaned with dish bars or detergents & water while wearing gloves. The same utensils may be re-used.
4. Disposal of infective wastes:
o The waste generated by the sick person and the handler shall be disinfected using homely available disinfectants, preferably 1% sodium hypochlorite solution to prevent further spread of infection within household.
5. Be empathetic and watchful:
As the sick person is alone in isolation, beempathetictowardshim/her.
Talk tohim/herregularlyonphone,share & relive good moments & experiences, encourage positivity & good feelings among them while closely monitoring theirsymptoms&oxygensaturation. Anyprogression/severityofsymptoms or dip in oxygen saturation shall immediately prompt you to seek medical attention/ hospital visit.
