SANDY Fragrances

A recent discovery of mine, Sandys Fragrances is an independent house in India that has only original creations in their arsenal. A couple of their limited editions caught my eye - H20 Marine and The Beach Exclusive.

H20 Marine I would like to say this is a barbershop marine (if that is even a thing !). Top notes of bright orange with rind scrapings and seagrass. The heart and the base notes develop differently to my nose according to the temperature I wore it. In an air conditioned environment, the middle notes of lavender is what shines, giving it a Fougere facet, lasting for 5 hours before transitioning into a musky base. In a humid temperature, the base of ambery musk and sage is prominent, proving the namesake. Easily get 8-10 hours on this. Sillage holds up good when I sit in my office.

The Beach Exclusive For people who grew up near the humid coastal regions or enjoy swimming regularly, this might be a familiar territory. The smell of dead fish on the shore that is amped up by the damp temperature, and yet the scent of the brash salty sea creeping in intermittenly providing the occasional bright light. As the fragrance settles, cardamom shines without losing the marine theme of this creation. Out of the two, this is easily my favourite. Unfortunately, I got hold of the last 50 ml bottle the owner had and does not seem like it will be in profuction any time soon as this took around two and half years to create according to him.

Both of these are on the expensive side of INR, but with fragrances that go against the norm, I do feel this is a house worth exploring. Couple of other samples that I am looking forward to purchase full botthles in the near future - Mansa Musa and Nagpur Santra.

Valentine
This is a fragrance of contrasts. It starts grounded and "tough" with the bitter chocolate, becomes "electric" with the alcohol, and finally softens into a wearable, romantic skin-scent. It’s perfect for someone who wants to smell "delicious" without smelling like a dessert tray.

It opens with a dark bitter chocolate note it's very unique as mostly chocolate ones are sweet,the bitter chocolate isn't the creamy milk chocolate found in a candy bar; it’s raw cacao. It has a dusty, almost savory edge that feels like dark soil or expensive suede. This "toughness" provides a masculine-leaning foundation that keeps the fragrance from becoming too feminine or cloying right out of the gate

Than comes that vodka note a taste of vodka boozy.
​As the chocolate settles,the vodka whiskey note cuts through the density.It adds a "zing" or a sharp, fermented heat

Finally, the sharp edges of the booze and the bitterness of the cacao melt away. What’s left is a soft, hummable warmth—a chocolate caramel vodka sandalwood aroma.It stops being a "perfume" and starts smelling like you.

You smell "delicious" in a way that invites someone to lean in closer, rather than smelling like you just walked out of a bakery

✨I got to try Decimation: Undoing of Senses by Sandy's Fragrances when I was in Delhi. It was kindly gifted to me along with another fragrance and their discovery set and honestly… I love this one.

I wore it on my flight back to Melbourne and it was such a vibe. It’s a little boozy, woody, but still has this fresh edge that makes it really easy to wear. Think polished wood, like a freshly lacquered cabinet, with a soft whiskey warmth in the background. Feels like you’re in a room full of old books while someone nearby is sipping on a drink.

There’s spice, sandalwood and patchouli running through it, but nothing feels heavy or too much. It just melts into your skin and sits so nicely.

I’ve noticed this with their other scents too, everything feels really unique and a bit artisanal. There’s also this subtle South Asian touch to it which I really love.

If you’re into fragrances that feel a bit more unique and not something you smell everywhere, this is definitely worth trying. Also love that they ship worldwide. ✨
