Using niacinamide above 10–20% can cause:

Skin reactions:

• Flushing and redness (it converts to niacin at high doses, which causes a “flush”)
• Tingling or burning sensation
• Irritation and sensitivity

Diminishing returns:

• Studies show most benefits plateau around 5–10% — going higher doesn’t give proportionally better results

Who’s most at risk:

• Sensitive or reactive skin types
• People using other actives (retinol, AHAs, BHAs) at the same time

The sweet spot for most people is 5–10%. Beyond that, you’re more likely to irritate your skin than improve it. If you’re not seeing results at 10%, the issue is usually something else — formulation, consistency, or pairing it with the wrong products.
