Malai biomaterials

It was a pleasure to attend 3 days of Design in Copenhagen as part of Material Matters display.
We presented our new material developments in form of woven khadi textiles using Malai Biocomposite and our newest material Malai Pure .
Along with this we displayed a collection of experimental material structures and objects made in collaboration with South Indian craft clusters including Koodai knotting, Kannadipaaya woven mats made with Forest Post and palm weaving crafts.

Malai biomaterials is a newly developed material made from entirely organic and sustainable bacterial cellulose, grown on agricultural waste sourced from the coconut industry in Southern India.

It’s a flexible, durable material and water resistant, because it contains absolutely no artificial ‘nasties’ and it will not cause any allergies, intolerances or illness. It’s a completely vegan product

Malai is available in a range of colors achieved through the use of mordant-free natural dyes and will last many years if properly cared for.
