DC Kokrajhar Reviews Railway Infrastructure Projects to Improve Connectivity

Kokrajhar, August 3: District Commissioner of Kokrajhar, Pankaj Chakravarty, chaired a review meeting with senior NF Railway officials to assess the progress of ongoing and upcoming railway infrastructure projects in the district.

The meeting reviewed the status of the projects, discussed implementation challenges, and explored ways to strengthen coordination between the District Administration and NF Railway for timely completion.

The District Commissioner stressed the need for better coordination, proactive planning, and quick resolution of issues. He said improved railway infrastructure will strengthen connectivity, boost economic growth, and support the overall development of Kokrajhar district.

Udalguri Police Arrest Fake Doctor, Seize Medicines and Medical Equipment

Udalguri, August 3: Acting on a Zero FIR received from CID, Udalguri Police raided a pharmacy at Bhalukmari Bazar and apprehended a person allegedly practising as a medical practitioner without valid registration.

During the raid, police seized medical instruments, medicines, and other items allegedly used for treating patients. A case has been registered, and further legal action is underway.

Police said public health and safety remain a top priority and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone practising medicine illegally.

UPPL Stages Protest in Bijni, Demands Justice for Raju Basumatary

Bijni, August 3: The Bijni District Committee of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) held a two-hour protest at Bijni Girls' High School playground in Chirang district on Monday, demanding justice for the murder of Jivananda Basumatary, popularly known as Raju.

After the protest, a UPPL delegation submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Bijni. The party demanded a fair and speedy investigation, transfer of the case to a Fast Track Court, strict punishment for the three accused, ₹1 crore financial assistance for the victim's family, and a government job for one eligible family member.

The participants of NTPC Bongaigaon's Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) 2026 had the privilege of interacting with one of India's most accomplished forest officers, Dr. Sonali Ghosh, IFS, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Addl. PCCF), Council Head of the Department (CHD), Forest, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), and Field Director, Manas Tiger Reserve, during her inspiring visit to the GEM Centre.

A distinguished Indian Forest Service officer, Dr. Ghosh is widely recognised for her outstanding contributions to wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship. She also holds the distinction of being the first woman Field Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga National Park, making her journey a remarkable example of leadership, perseverance and excellence.
Speaking passionately about forests, wildlife and biodiversity, she emphasised that protecting nature is not merely the responsibility of forest officials but a collective duty of every citizen. She encouraged the girls to become ambassadors of environmental conservation by adopting sustainable habits, planting trees, conserving water and inspiring others to protect the natural world.

The interactive session witnessed enthusiastic participation from the girls, who asked thoughtful questions about wildlife, forests, the Indian Forest Service, conservation efforts and career opportunities. Responding patiently to every query, Dr. Ghosh shared inspiring anecdotes from her years of service, including experiences from Kaziranga and Manas Tiger Reserve, motivating the participants to develop curiosity, confidence and compassion towards nature.

Adding a visual dimension to the session, Dr. Ghosh screened an informative documentary on Manas National Park and Tiger Reserve, introducing the girls to its rich biodiversity, endangered species, conservation initiatives and global ecological significance. The film helped the participants appreciate the importance of preserving India's invaluable natural heritage.

Interacting with the 50 young participants of the month-long residential programme, Dr. Ghosh encouraged the girls to dream fearlessly, pursue education with determination and believe in their own abilities. Drawing from her personal and professional experiences, she explained how dedication, discipline and a clear sense of purpose can help overcome challenges and achieve extraordinary success.

The interaction beautifully complemented the holistic objectives of the Girl Empowerment Mission by integrating environmental awareness with leadership, confidence building and life skills, enabling the participants to develop into socially responsible and environmentally conscious citizens.

Kokrajhar, August 3: MCLA and EM, Moon Moon Brahma and MCLA Kampa Borgoyari today completed their self-enumeration through the official Census Portal, joining other public representatives across the country in supporting the nationwide Census 2027 exercise, following the commencement of the Self-Enumeration facility under the first phase of Census 2027 from August 2, 2026.

Reaffirming their commitment to the successful conduct of the Census, they urged all citizens of BTC to actively participate in the self-enumeration process and complete it within the stipulated period. They said that widespread public participation would help ensure accurate and reliable population data, which is vital for informed planning and inclusive development.

Udalguri Police Conduct Foot Patrol Along Indo–Bhutan Border

Udalguri Police, along with personnel of the 5th Commando Battalion, conducted foot patrolling under Bhairabkunda Outpost along the Indo–Bhutan international border and the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh interstate boundary. The patrol was carried out to strengthen border security, maintain a strong police presence, and ensure continuous vigilance in the area.

Tamulpur Police arrested five persons during a crackdown on illegal gambling in connection with Tamulpur Police Station Case No. 158/26, registered under Sections 13 and 14 of the Assam Game and Betting Act, 1970. Police said the drive against illegal betting will continue to maintain law and order in the region.

Security Forces Recover Huge Cache of Arms and Explosives in Manipur

Security forces recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives during a cordon and search operation in the Makokching Jungle under Saikul Police Station in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Monday.

The recovered items include one M16 rifle, one Mark III rifle, one sniper rifle, one .22 bolt-action gun, 25 single-barrel guns, seven pistols, 76 live rounds of ammunition of various calibres, 179 empty cartridge cases, one rifle magazine, four improvised pumpi guns, 36 hand grenades, 20 detonators, four Baofeng radio sets, and one Baofeng charger.
