বয়স ৯৪। এই বয়সে বিশ্বচ্যাম্পিয়ন হয়ে তাক লাগিয়ে দিলেন ভগবানি দেবী। ১০০ মিটার দৌড়ে সোনার পদক পেয়েছেন তিনি। অর্থাৎ, এখন বিশ্বের দ্রুততমা প্রবীণা ভগবানিই।
২৪.৭৪ সেকেন্ড। ১০০ মিটার দৌড়ে সোনা জয়ের পথে ২৫ সেকেন্ডেরও কম সময় নিয়েছেন তিনি। ৯৪ বছরের ভগবানি যে গতিতে দৌড় শেষ করেছেন, তাতে অবাক অনেকেই। বিশ্ব মাস্টার অ্যাথলেটিক্স চ্যাম্পিয়নশিপে ট্র্যাক ইভেন্টের পাশাপাশি ফিল্ড ইভেন্টেও সাফল্য পেয়েছেন তিনি। ব্রোঞ্জ পদক জিতেছেন শট পাটে।

তাঁর সাফল্যে উচ্ছ্বসিত কেন্দ্রীয় ক্রীড়ামন্ত্রকও। যুব কল্যাণ ও ক্রীড়া মন্ত্রকের পক্ষ থেকে টুইটে লেখা হয়েছে, ’৯৪ বছরের ভগবানি দেবী আরও এক বার প্রমাণ করলেন বয়স কোনও বাধা নয়। বিশ্ব মাস্টার্স অ্যাথলেটিক্স চ্যাম্পিয়নশিপে সোনা জিতেছেন ১০০ মিটার দৌড়ে। সময় নিয়েছেন ২৪.৭৪ সেকেন্ড। এছাড়াও শটপাটে জিতেছেন ব্রোঞ্জ পদক।’
ফিনল্যান্ডের ট্যাম্পারে ২৯ জুন থেকে ১০ জুলাই (২০২২) পর্যন্ত বিশ্ব মাস্টার্স অ্যাথলেটিক্স চ্যাম্পিয়নশিপের আসর বসে। এই প্রতিযোগিতায় অংশগ্রহণ করতে হলে প্রতিযোগীর বয়স হতে হয় কমপক্ষে ৩৫ বছর। সেখানে ৯৪ বছরের ভগবানির ১০০ মিটার দৌড়ে সোনা জয় বিশেষ কৃতিত্ব বলেই মনে করা হচ্ছে।
