Aerobic exercises along with few breathing exercises will improve your VO2 max - the maximum volume of oxygen that your body can use. This is important for a HIGH ALTITUDE TREK as there will be less oxygen in the air for you to consume and breath has to count.

I don't care what anyone else says , if you are doing these below mentioned 5 things then you're right on track to long term fitness:
1. You are exercising 3 - 6 times a week. Some week it's 3 , some week it's 6. Some week you push it, some week you just drag yourself to the gym. Doesn't matter. You some how make time for exercise every week.
2. You walk as much as you can on a daily basis. Some days it's 5000 steps, some days it's 8000, some days it's 12000. Doesn't matter. Given your life, your situation, you're trying to be as active as you can.
3. You try and include protein and vegetables to be part of as many meals as possible. It may not be every meal, it may not be too much but you're consciously trying to include them.
4. You are minimising. Sugary, starchy and fried foods. You're not giving them up. You're not over eating them. You're just being watchful, you're being mindful, you're taking good care.
5. Finally, you are prioritising sleep. You may not be sleeping 7 or 7.5 hours perfectly every night but you're making an effort to sleep as early as you can and as well as you can, and as long as you can.
