The indigo leaves are harvested and transformed into natural indigo.
An artist then uses that same indigo to create artworks like this one, inspired by Bengal's rich textile heritage.
This World Environment Day, we're reflecting on a journey that comes full circle—from a farmer's field to a piece of art.
We think it looks beautiful :) But more importantly, it carries a story of farmers, artisans, heritage, and a more conscious relationship with the things we bring into our homes.
Perhaps that's what makes it different from just another piece of décor. It's a conversation.
We are wondering..would you have something like this in your home? Tell us more!

When India wears blue, magic happens! 🏆🌟
Calm yet powerful. Gentle yet unyielding.
Blue — the colour of faith, strength, and devotion — rises again as our women in blue make India proud.
Congratulations, Team India! 💙

What began as an idea came to life when we harvested around 4 quintals of indigo crop from Bardhaman. Despite the heavy rains, we braved the challenges and carried out a large-scale extraction—probably the biggest in Bengal post-Independence—reviving this heritage of India as a climate-resilient crop.
The joy was even greater because this milestone happened in my ancestral village, where our family has lived for nearly 500 years and where our Durga Puja tradition continues till today. 💙
We now have beautiful indigo paste—rich, shimmering, and authentic—ready to flow into the hands of artists and craftspeople, to revive traditional artforms and inspire innovation along the way.
A long journey lies ahead, but this is just the beginning… 🌿💫

🌿🌊 On this auspicious day of Ratha Yatra, we celebrate Lord Jagannath, lovingly known as Neelamadhava—the Lord of the Blue.
His story is deeply tied to the color blue:
💙 Neelamadhava – The Blue Lord worshipped in tribal forests
💙 Nilachal – The Blue Mountain where his temple now stands
💙 Neelachakra – The sacred Blue Disc atop the Jagannath Temple, seen from miles away
Blue here isn’t just a color—it’s a symbol of cosmic vastness, universality, and divine compassion.
As the grand chariots roll today, may Lord Jagannath’s blessings fill our lives with harmony, love, and hope. 🙏🌱
Wishing everyone a blessed and joyous Ratha Yatra!

💭 Where did our natural colors go?
Back in 2015–16, as an SBI Youth for India Fellow with Barefoot College, Amrita spent a year living in the mountains of Kumaon. She worked with farmers to cultivate indigo—a crop never grown in the region—and traveled on foot with a puppet called Samajhdar Chacha, doing environmental awareness.
That experience planted a seed that is now Nili Botanicals.
Today, we’re reviving Indigofera tinctoria in Bengal to provide an alternative income for farmers in drought-prone, climate-stressed areas. We’re building a full value chain to deliver 100% traceable, plant-based indigo—for both fabric and natural hair dye.
And we’re doing it with science, tradition, and deep respect for our weavers and soil.
Join us as we bring India’s most iconic blue back to life. 💙

Today, on World Environment Day, we celebrate nature’s palette and the farmers who bring it to life. 🌿
At Nili Botanicals, we grow indigo the natural way—reviving Bengal’s lost crop to make pure, plant-based dyes.
