Happy to share my experience of conducting a yoga-based cognitive recovery and performance support intervention for soldiers preparing for the Inter Division Skill at Arms Shooting Championship at Army Marksmanship Unit, Mhow.

This experience made me realise that firing is not just a technical skill — it is attention, breath control, emotional regulation, and remaining calm under pressure.

A 300 m firing event demands: • steady posture
• controlled breathing
• fine neuromuscular coordination
• sharp focus on a single point for long durations

At the same time, there is pressure of performance, unit pride, expectations, family emotions, and the responsibility to score better.

The challenge is to let go of distractions and return to the present moment… bullet by bullet.

Through yoga, we worked on:
• stability and body awareness
• breathwork for steadiness and recovery
• Tratak and centering practices for attention
• Yoga Nidra and deep relaxation for recovery and sleep quality
• emotional regulation under stress

One beautiful observation for me was how closely precision firing relates to Patanjali Yoga Sutra concepts:

“देशबन्धश्चित्तस्य धारणा॥”
Fixing the mind on one point.

“तत्र प्रत्ययैकतानता ध्यानम्॥”
Continuous flow of attention towards that point.

In many ways, firing itself becomes a meditative process — where for a few moments, only the target exists.

Why I Flip My Perspective! 😊
𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝗴𝗮 - are more than just impressive poses; they are a physiological "reset button."

When we go upside down, we utilize gravity to enhance our internal health:
- 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻: Reversing gravity allows blood and lymph to move effortlessly from the legs back to the heart. Research in the Journal of Applied Physiology confirms this "fluid shift" reduces the workload on venous valves.

- 𝗡𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗺: Inverting stimulates baroreceptors (pressure sensors) in the neck, signaling the brain to shift from "fight or flight" into rest and digest mode.

- 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Shifting the physical weight of abdominal organs provides a natural massage to the digestive tract, aiding motility and relieving pelvic pressure.

Flipping your body is the ultimate way to flip your mood. 🧘‍♂️

Note: Safety First - Avoid deep inversions if you have high blood pressure, glaucoma, or neck injuries. Initially practice under the supervision of the expert.
