Retinoids are great for addressing fine lines, hyperpigmentation, acne, uneven skin tones, pores & rough texture & also improving skin firmness.⁣

It works by encouraging surface skin cells to turnover & shed, promotes new cell growth underneath and aids in collagen production⁣

As a result of this surface skin cell shedding, when you start using retinoids, depending on the product you’re using, you may experience skin dryness, peeling, irritation, redness & sensitivity. ⁣However, with so many advanced formulas today, it’s not necessary to go through this.

Retinoids do not thin the skin but the increased cell turnover & collagen production results in thicker more youthful skin.⁣

If at first you’re feeling slightly sensitised, keep going & you will find your skin acclimatises to it! It will become stronger and more resilient.

Not all retinoids produce these effects and if you’re new to retinol, our advice is to choose a retinoid that doesn’t produce these side effects.

Always, always use a high broad spectrum SPF when using retinol ( you should always aim to use SPF regardless, however it’s extremely important the night after you use a retinoid).

Retinoid usage can be tailored to fit in with your lifestyle. Generally, you start off by using it less frequently to build your tolerance & titrate up from there.
