Being a pediatric dentist doesn’t make me a perfect mom… 😅
We have our brushing battles, food negotiations and toddler meltdowns too!
But there are a few things I try really hard not to compromise on when it comes to my little one’s oral health. ❤️
✨ Fluoride toothpaste from the first tooth
✨ No added sugar before 2 years
✨ Never skipping the bedtime brush
Because when you know better, you try to do better. 💛
Now I want to hear from YOU! 👇
Parents, what is ONE thing you never compromise on when it comes to your child’s health?
And be honest… 😂
Did any of these surprise you?

Losing a baby molar too soon isn’t just a “cute gap” phase — it can quietly cost the permanent tooth its parking spot. 🦷
This little wire appliance (a space maintainer) does exactly what it sounds like: it holds the space open so the adult tooth underneath has a clear path to come in exactly where it’s supposed to, instead of neighboring teeth drifting in and closing the gap.
Small appliance, big job. 🌱
If your child has lost a tooth early, this is worth asking your pediatric dentist about.
📌 Save this for later

Does being a pediatric dentist mean my own baby skips the hard teething nights? I wish. 😅
Teething doesn’t care that I studied this for a living. My own toddler is going through it right now, and it’s humbling how much theory goes out the window at 2am.
So here’s both hats in one post: the signs I tell parents to watch for in clinic every week, and the one trick that’s actually worked at home (hint: it lives in your fridge🥕).

Le Parent-Please remove my child’s teeth they have been troubling him since a year now!
Doctor- We need to give a Distal shoe space maintainer!
Le Parent-How important is it to give a Distal shoe space maintainer in such cases ? Cant we skip it?
Doctor-When both the 1st and 2nd primary molars are lost prematurely before the eruption of the permanent molars, a distal shoe space maintainer becomes vital. This appliance holds the space open by positioning a metal loop at the back of the dental arch and extending a small metal wing to the eruption path of the future permanent molar.
By maintaining the space, it prevents adjacent teeth from shifting into the gap, which could otherwise lead to crowding or misalignment. This ensures that the permanent molar can erupt properly, aiding in the proper alignment and function of the child’s bite.”

Do you know about Lingual arch space maintainers used in children?
This is a case of a 9yr old boy who reported with repeated abscess and pain with his lower right molars and history of an old abscess with lower left molar as well. On examination and after recording the X-rays we decided to extract ( remove) the concerned teeth. To hold the space for the premolars, which had not yet erupted, he required a lingual arch space maintainer!
In pediatric dentistry, a lingual arch space maintainer is commonly used when a primary tooth is lost prematurely. It helps prevent neighboring teeth from drifting into the empty space, preserving the proper alignment of the teeth and facilitating the eruption of the permanent tooth.
It takes support of the erupted permanent molars and anterior permanent teeth and hold the space for the permanent successors.
Addressing space maintenance early in a child’s dental development can prevent more complex issues from arising later, promoting overall dental health and reducing the need for extensive corrective measures in the future.
