Hard to believe it is 2024! The realisation I have been doing make-up professionally for 24 years really hit me this year!
What a journey! Truly blessed.
After fat mu shut down, Dolly Green was born and became my new adventure. It's a balance between the fun of make-up artistry in harmony with the ‘Green’ revolution happening all around us. Hence the name was born.
I still love the idea of transforming make-up from a basic service into a respected art form and fortunately we are seeing progress here. The explosion of creative make-up artistry online is incredible and seeing so much talent is inspiring. Show casing your talent has never been easier and the sharing of ideas is truly mind-blowing.
I still feel though that you have to find the balance of your art and mind with tech and social media. Analogue vs Digital. Sketching vs Scrolling etc etc. Not easy but onwards and upwards we navigate our way through this fast-paced world.
I love running the Academy side of things, writing new curriculums, workshops and I still feel it's so important in establishing a trusted make-up community and education platform so new make-up artists can start their journey in a place where they will evolve to be confident in their craft. Trusted knowledge is everything.
Students need to be supported, and need the correct foundations for a successful and long-term career in make-up. Building that trusted community is SO important.
If you want to be part of our fast-growing Dolly Green make-up community please do get in touch. Important to share stories, advice, tips, help each other and also know what you want or need to learn, upgrade, upskill, steer you career in a different direction.
My goals for this year are to get back into my Sketchbook world, which as any artist will tell you, is essential. Read more books, study more art history, walk more.
Professionally I am starting a new film in March and am so looking forward to working with the amazing Dolly Green Designory team. It's been a crazy few years now and am excited and charged up for this Epic! Let's Shoot!
Another happy new year to all of you and I hope everyone is in a better place than 2020. Keep going.

Vintage Vibes! 🎞
Today we’re showcasing some stunning black and white photoshoots by our MU-ettes! Why does fat mu academy have black and white shoots you ask?
Black and white is a challenging medium where all the make-up artist has to work with is light, shade and texture. Creating interest and contrast sans colour is a fun and rewarding exercise and very important to understand. Plus, adding a retro twist helps MU-ettes learn the history of make-up trends as well! 🖤 @ Fat Mu

Artists were fascinated by women applying lipstick at the start of the twentieth century. It was both an example of modern manners and an example of what would have been considered the ‘eternal feminine’, just the sort of subject to appeal to an expressionist artist like Frantisek Kupka. By 1908 when this was painted, lipstick was being worn off the stage as well as on by actors and was adopted by the fast set. Lipstick, 1908, Pompidou, Paris.
