🌸You might know someone who has this weird habit of biting their lips in this funny, lopsided manner, subconsciously.

🌼Often malposed teeth, usually the canines keep the lips/cheek in very close proximity to get traumatized.

🍁Such Long term trauma, can often damage super tiny ducts of very small glands which produce saliva and kink them. So saliva cannot pass out into the mouth and gets collected under the lip in the form of a balloon, which bursts from time to time and reoccurs.

☘️Medically it's called a mucocele or a mucous extravasation cyst, often times it can be the uncommon variety of it, the mucous retention cyst.

🌻Shown here is a similar case of a 17 year old boy, who presented with a mucocele. This was excised under local anaesthesia by 💪🏻 using electrosurgery⚡. The idea is to not damage the sac of the cyst as well as excise the small tiny gland which is blocked. The area is then closed with few stitches.

Procedure time- 15 mins (local anesthesia💉 to closure)
Down time- 3-4 days. A small swelling in the lip which usually resolves in a couple of days.

We did what literature describes as the "Lateral trephination technique" popularly called "Henry's abortion" (unborn/unformed tooth ~ unborn child) amongst the Maxillofacial surgery community, under a simple local anesthesia block. Removal of that pink mass (the sac you see next to the tooth) is essential to prevent any future infections.
🌸With a course of pain meds and prophylactic pre-surgery antibiotics, the patient was up and about, painfree and returned to a normal diet in a couple of days!
