Lemongrass has been used in cooking and herbal medicine for at least five thousand years. It was used by locals in India for a variety of medical issues. The plant has deep historical roots in Asian and African cultures as well. Lemongrass has been cultivated in Southeast Asia for the past two thousand years. History shows that in East India and Sri Lanka, lemongrass was combined with other herbs to make a drink locally known as fever tea. The locals would use this beverage to treat fevers, irregular menstruation, diarrhea and stomachaches. In India the oil was also used to treat fungal infections of the skin.
The Chinese used the herb in similar ways, to treat headaches, stomachaches, colds and sore muscles and joints. The Cubans use the oil today to reduce blood pressure. It is one of the most common herbs for digestive issues in Brazil and the Caribbean today. Lemongrass is common enough that it will be found in most spas and medical offices that offer relaxing procedures like massages and therapy. The oil has pain relieving qualities that can soothe sore muscles and joints. It is also beginning to become a more prescribed oil as a natural treatment for sleeping disorders, stress and even depression.
As a large percentage of the world turns to more green alternatives, lemongrass oil is being used in homemade cleaning products, body and face washes and shampoos. Unlike most store bought products, there is little risk of reaction when compared to the chemicals used in commercial products. Lemongrass is able to safely moisturize the skin and treat damaged hair.

The peppermint plant is believed to have originated in Northern Africa and the Mediterranean. It is a natural hybrid between spearmint and water mint. Peppermint has been a popular medicinal and culinary herb for centuries with its first documented use around 1500 B.C. The plant gets its name from Greek mythology. The legend says that Hades had an affair with a nymph named Minthe. When his wife found out she turned Minthe into a plant that would be constantly trampled on. Hades added the calming scent to the plant to remind others of her presence.
Romans used the plant and oil to flavor many of their foods during feasts, including sauces and wines. The plant was also commonly placed on dining tables for visual appeal and worn by noblemen in a braided crown. Peppermint is even mentioned in the Bible. It was worth so much at the time that it was used as a form of currency when paying taxes. It is also believed to have been served at The Last Supper. Peppermint oil is used throughout the world today for many different reasons. It is a recommended treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) as it calms the stomach and relieves the individual from stomach pain, gas, diarrhea and constipation. It can be taken in a capsule form or a few drops can be added to water. It is also used in facial cleaners, moisturizers, shampoos and even dental products, like toothpaste and mouthwash.
It is also a well known treatment for chest congestion. When the oil is heated with water to produce steam or added to a diffuser, it can help to break up mucous from colds or other conditions.

Every moment of our lives we are exposed to thousands of man made chemicals which enter our bodies with each breath, meal or drink we take, the clothes and cosmetics we wear, the things we encounter every day in our homes, workplaces and travel.
This poisoning of the planet through man-made chemical emissions is probably the largest human impact – and the one that is least understood or regulated. It is one of ten major existential risks now confronting humanity. Read the blog post up on our website for more details. Link in bio.

Eucalyptus oil's history of medicinal use dates back to the days of Indigenous Australians, who used both the leaves and the roots of the plant as medicines. When English colonists began to arrive in Australia in the late 1700s, they quickly adopted eucalyptus oil as a medicinal treatment themselves. In fact, when Surgeon-General John White arrived in 1788, he took an interest in eucalyptus almost immediately, according to entries in his diary. By 1790, he had distilled a quart of eucalyptus oil and sent it back to England for testing, where it eventually came to be used as a disinfectant to clean wounds and aid in healing after surgery.

As early as 200 BCE, envoys from Java to the Han-dynasty court of China brought cloves that were customarily held in the mouth to perfume the breath during audiences with the emperor. During the late Middle Ages, cloves were used in Europe to preserve, flavour, and garnish food. Clove cultivation was almost entirely confined to Indonesia, and in the early 17th century the Dutch eradicated cloves on all islands except Amboina and Ternate in order to create scarcity and sustain high prices. In the latter half of the 18th century the French smuggled cloves from the East Indies to Indian Ocean islands and the New World, breaking the Dutch monopoly. Clove is looked upon as a champion of all the antioxidants known till date. The Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC) test is a scale developed by U.S. Department of Agriculture for comparing anti-oxidant activity. The ORAC score, of clove is over 10 million. A drop of clove bud oil is 400 times more powerful as an anti-oxidant than wolf berries or blueberries.
