My mother loves Mogra flowers. Every summer, our garden bloomed with Mogras, filling our home with their sweet, intoxicating scent. She liked soaking them in water in a bowl by her bed. And for me the best treat after a tiring, hot day, was to come home and splash the fragrant Mogra water on my face.
Years later I learnt about skin toners and how important they are for skin health. However, most commercial toners stung my skin, made it feel dry, and smelt like after-shave lotions! Later yet, as I studied Ayurveda for skin health, I found that the best toners are to be found not in Factories, but in Nature, from flower waters (hydrosols), which are produced during distillation of flowers. They contain natural aromatic compounds, which have highly healing properties. AND they smell glorious!
Here are 5 ways I use Flower Waters for my skincare:
1. I keep a bottle of Jasmine toner in the refrigerator, and spray on my face when I come back from work. What a luxurious scent & such a delicious pick-me-up! And incredibly soothing after I have been out in the Sun.
2. I also travel with a little Jasmine toner bottle in my bag. I love the way it clears sweat /grime on-the-go and the way it revives my skin during long haul flights.
3. Whenever I feel an acne outbreak coming up, I switch to a Lavender & Rosemary toner. Its antibacterial action helps re**rd the acne. And the fragrance reminds me of the mountains.
4. Flower waters are also great for using under make-up – they help set the makeup without making one feel greasy.
5. I totally LOVE my 100% natural Shea Face Butters. However, during summers I don’t want to slather too much of it. So before applying the face butter, I spray some flower water, making it super easy to spread a TINY amount of butter all over – and it works wonderfully as a light, nutritious moisturiser that keeps my skin happy :-)

There is a Neem Tree outside our home. It sprouted on its own more than a decade ago - a good sign, we felt, & let it be. I didn’t think much about it until 5 years ago when on a whim I decided to make a face pack with its leaves for our daughter, for treating a monsoon acne outbreak. It worked beautifully, & quickly became our favourite family go-to remedy for acne/ skin inflammations / irritations etc. Later DwaarPe was born, & Neemrit – a dried version of this same pack, became one of DwaarPe’s first few products. We were pleasantly surprised to find that it became rather popular with teenage girls (considering its “non-glamourous” contents of neem haldi etc). But what totally blew us away was the fact that one of our customers -an older lady – reported to us that regular use of Neemrit has helped her get relief from the long standing eczema on her legs and back. This prompted us to study this herb deeply, and the list of accomplishments it has is impressive indeed – with 100+ anti-oxidants that fight inflammation, viral fevers, a huge range of skin diseases and even cancer. I then also started using neem juice for viral fevers for everyone in the family; & it has never failed us.
