How much kg of groundnut can produce 1 liter of oil?
It takes 2.5 kg of groundnut to produce 1 litre of the groundnut oil.
The cost of procurement and processing of the groundnut is around Rs. 90/kg. So, simple math says that Rs. 225/litre is the raw material cost. The cost of bottling and packaging is around Rs. 10/litre. Above this cost, there is cost of production which includes labour, rents, maintenance and electricity. This has to cost another Rs. 50/litre easily. So, the final cost of production and packaging is around Rs. 285/litre of groundnut oil.
The manufacturers get to sell the pressed cake (by-product of groundnut oil production) at Rs. 20–30/kg. As I mentioned earlier, each litre of groundnut oil production leaves 1.4-1.5 kg of by-product. The by-product gives additional revenue of Rs. 35–45/Litre of groundnut oil production.
One can safely say that, the Cumulative cost is Rs. 240–250 for per litre production of groundnut oil.
Anyone selling at lesser cost is either selling at loss or selling adulterated product.

Cold pressed oil- In this oil seeds are crushed slowly to extract oil from them naturally. This is done to retain the nutrients and flavours.
Hot pressed oil- In this oil is extracted by using high heat (200°C) and chemical solvents. Due to chemicals and heat, most of the nutrients and flavours are lost.
