This is a Splendid Woodpecker (Campephilus splendens), a forest species that occurs from Panama through Colombia to Ecuador. Some taxonomic authorities still treat it as a subspecies of Crimson-bellied Woodpecker (Campephilus haematogaster), but many accept it as a full species.
