Why should individuals with diabetes limit their consumption of sweets? The reason lies not in the sweetness of the taste, but rather in how the body processes sugary foods. Some people mistakenly believe that the tongue or taste buds contribute to the development of diabetes, which is an unfounded notion. In reality, the digestive system breaks down food in the stomach, which then mixes with the bloodstream. Consuming excessive sweet items can lead to type 2 diabetes, much like how very spicy foods can cause acidity and very sour items can result in foul-smelling urine. Furthermore, sweet diets are often difficult to digest. It is advisable to avoid consuming sweet items at night whenever possible. Not only individuals with diabetes but also healthy individuals should limit their sugar intake. While occasional consumption is acceptable, making it a habit is not recommended. Additionally, sugary drinks should be avoided due to their direct absorption into the bloodstream.
