Perfection is a journey not a destination.

Finding my centre, with a little extra gravity these days. Post-pregnancy yoga isn't just about getting my strength back; it's about honouring what this body has built. My favourite yoga partner makes every flow a little more meaningful.

Natural sleep is a restorative tonic to the nerves. Yogis can convert ordinary sleep into psychic trance and enjoy inner delight. That sleep is complete immersion of the mind into the deeper self.

Ordinary sleep gives rest for the vital and the physical body. But mind, the subtle body, may be wandering with past impressions and acts in the dream. "The mind works even in dreamless sleep." ( Kavi Yogi Maharshi)

A minimum of six hours rest is necessary for ordinary human beings. It is better not to avoid sleep when it comes. But daylight dozing must be stopped. There is some exception like Indian Grishma Rutu that is summer, one can take a nap. ( Kavi Yogi Maharshi)

Maharshi patanjali describe vruti that is praman, viparyay, vikalp, nidra and smruti.
अभावप्रत्ययालम्बना वृत्तिर्निद्रा । (१. १०)
Due to the absence of jagrut and svapnavastha (waking state and dreaming), the tendency to accept Tamas is nidra (sleep).

Even a MANDUKYA UPANISHAD is also talk about dreamless sleep it is PRAJYA.
FREUD and JUNG also gave us a huge theory of sleep, Swami RAMA describe it in his one of the the book YOGA AND PSYCHOTHERAPY.

To know whether the sleep is complete or not, see that the stomach has been cleaned properly, the whole day goes with enthusiasm, dreamsless sleep and good sleep keeps the chitta happy.
If you sleep more than 6-7 hours, you are wasting both your time and energy. If you have too much sleep, then check your sharir shram (physician work), check your mental state... Too much sleep means the quality of sleep is not good, which can be improved by the practice of Pranayam and Yoga Nidra.

It is believed that for the happiness that comes from kissing, hugging, shaking hands, touching feet etc is because one life force enters into the other and causes one to feel happiness.

The one must do pranayam but as I said be very careful when you are practicing. For beginners with proper guidance and under observation practice is necessary.

If you haven't any guidance or teacher then just do dirgh shwashan (deep breathing) daily atleast for 10 to 15 minutes. Dirgh shwashan is the starting point and very important for pranayam so that your lungs must be prepare for further practice/pranayam.

Mudras are higher practices which lead to awakening of the pranas, chakras and kundalini, which can bestow major sidhhis, psychic powers, on the advanced practitioner.

The attitudes and postures adopted during mudra practices establish a direct link between annamaya kosha, the physical body, manomaya kosha, the mental body and pranamaya kosha, the energy body. Initially, this enables the practitioner to develop awareness of the flow of prana in the body. Ultimately, it establishes pranic balance within the koshas and enables the redirection of subtle energy to the upper chakras, inducing higher states of consciousness.

Mudras manipulate prana in much the same way that energy in the form of light or sound waves is diverted by a mirror or a cliff face.

For example, by closing the eyes with the fingers in shanmukhi mudra, the prana being radiated through the eyes is reflected back.

The mind becomes introverted, inducing states of pratyahara, sense withdrawal, and dharana, concentration.

Note:- Do not practice without instructor/ teacher.

Happy Guru Purnima to all.
Primarily Guru Purnima called Vyas Puranima. Guru puja means to worship the ultimate goal. In Vedic kaal gurus serve gyan (knowledge) by shishya's (student's) eligibility. By this day of guru purnima we remembers our guru Ved Vyas and many others who help to find the ultimate goal and help to pursue it.

Pranayama in lay man’s term can be said to be the process of reversing Prana (Life Force). In Pranayama one is trying to create gap between two breaths.

Simply meaning prolonging the life or respiration or prolonging the life force. Pranayama may mean controlling the breath to some extent but it does not mean reducing the breath at all.

Friends, we should know that the breath which knows how to run our whole body, it also has the power to repair our body.

Different techniques/methods of Pranayama have been mentioned in the available/surviving scriptures on Yog. Such Pranayama techniques should only be practiced under the guidance of a knowledgeable person to get different types of results.

In Hathayogapradipika it is said-

When the Prana (i.e. life force) is in motion, the mind also comes into motion, and when the Prana is motionless, the mind automatically becomes motionless and the Yogi becomes still. Therefore those aspiring to be a yogi should control the breath.

Precautions:
It is essential that one has faith, truthfulness and firmness in the action of Pranamayama.
May our body be pure (i.e. clean as well pious).
The spine, neck and head should be in a straight line.
Sit in a in which you can sit comfortable for a long time. i.e. No need to contort our bodies unnecessarily.
There should be no anywhere. Meaning our bodies must not be under stress or no clothing should be worn which pinches us.
Do not do anything in excess. As it is said that anything in excess is poisonous.
If a person has high blood pressure, then s/he should do pranayama at a slow pace and that too after their blood pressure normalizes.
If a person has undergone an operation, then such a person should slowly opt for pranayama after six months slowly.

"स्थिरसुखमासनम् ।"
(पातंजल योगसूत्र २.४७)

--

Meaning: According to the Sanskrit dictionary, Asana means to sit, the base of sitting, the special procedure of sitting.

Deeper Meaning: The stable state of happiness is called Asana.

Importance of Asana:

- Most important for subsequent progress in Yog. Like while doing Pranayama it of most importance that our body and mind both are in our control and we’re not in its grip.

- A deeper connection is established between the body and the mind.

Caution: Keep in mind that doing various Aasanas should be effortless i.e. force should not be used to bend the body, it should be done with ease. If we start fighting with the body while doing asanas, then we will not make progress easily not only that but instead of benefiting from yoga practice, the mind and body will be harmed.

Benefits of Asanas:

For the stability of the mind (from the feeling of restlessness to the feeling of serenity) and for the firmness of the body and its organs.

***We apologies that we are not able to keep all the things related to the Aasana here. To know these things in detail, connect with the VINIYOG and get information through WhatsApp.
