It is the stone, still warm, meeting the first gentle cool breeze. It is the chatter that returns to fill the arcades, slow at first, then growing ever denser, like silk being woven back together thread by thread.
The city does not wake up suddenly. It does so with the same grace with which the seasons change: a shutter opening, a leaf stirring, a footstep echoing beneath the ancient vaults.
It is in these suspended moments, between the lingering summer and the approaching autumn, that Bologna reveals its truest nature. The one that never appears on postcards, but which can only be experienced first-hand.

È la pietra ancora calda che incontra la prima lieve aria fresca. È il vociare che torna a riempire i portici, lento all'inizio, poi sempre più denso, come una seta che si ricompone filo dopo filo.
La città non si svegli all'improvviso. Lo fa con la stessa grazia con cui cambia stagione: una persiana che si apre, una foglia che si muove, un passo che risuona sotto le volte antiche.
È in questi momenti sospesi, tra l'estate che resta e l'autunno che arriva, che Bologna rivela la sua natura più vera. Quella che non finisce mai sulle cartoline, ma che si vive solo sulla pelle.

Enfleurage.
An ancient and meticulous method for capturing a living flower, before it fades away forever.
The petals are laid on a frame coated in fat, which slowly absorbs their scents. They are then removed and replaced with fresh flowers. Again and again, for days on end, until the fat has absorbed everything the flower had to offer.
The result is the pomade: a raw material of a purity and complexity unattainable by any other process. Something that cannot be optimised, accelerated or simplified.
One simply waits.
Like everything where quality is not a goal, but a starting point.
Enfleurage.
Un metodo antico e meticoloso per catturare un fiore vivo, prima che possa svanire per sempre.
I petali vengono posati su un telaio ricoperto di grasso che ne assorbe lentamente i profumi. Poi rimossi. Sostituiti con fiori freschi. Ancora e ancora, per giorni, finché il grasso non porta dentro di sé tutto ciò che il fiore aveva da dire.
Il risultato è la pomata: una materia prima di una purezza e complessità irraggiungibili con qualsiasi altro processo. Qualcosa che non si ottimizza, non si accelera, non si semplifica.
Si aspetta, soltanto.
Come ogni cosa in cui la qualità non è un obiettivo, ma un punto di partenza.

For Marion Garcia Camaret, perfume has never been merely an accessory. It has been a refuge, even before it became a profession.

There comes a moment, after hours of walking along the towpaths, when fatigue gives way to the open air.
The horses would stop. The meadows outside Bologna smelled of wild bergamot, of jasmine in the tall grass, of greenery drenched in dew.
Aura is that breath of fresh air. The sigh of the earth setting itself free in the wind.
Bergamotto che sorprende.

C'è un momento, dopo ore di cammino lungo le alzaie, in cui la fatica lascia il posto all'aria aperta.
I cavalli si fermavano. I prati fuori Bologna odoravano di bergamotto selvatico, di gelsomino nell'erba alta, di verde bagnato di rugiada.
Aura è quella boccata d'aria. Il sospiro della terra che si libera nel vento.

Summer in Bologna is a state of mind. It is the quietest city, with terraces basking in the sun, a gentle breeze ruffling the silk, and a striped blanket spread out on the hillside for a picnic. It is the beauty of slow-paced things: a book open on a straw placemat, a picked flower, the city slowing down and bathed in a golden light.
Sometimes all it takes is knowing how to look for the poetry hidden in summer afternoons in the city.
