HEALTHY DRINK OPTIONS

People often ask me what I drink.

The truth is...

I don't really do drinks.

For the most part, I drink two things:

πŸ’§ Water.
β˜• Black coffee.

No sugar.
No cream.
No sweeteners.

That's what I drink every single day.

Now, my family almost always has homemade drinks in the fridge, like unsweetened sorrel or unsweetened iced tea. While those aren't my primary drinks, I'll occasionally have a glass.

The key for me is simple...

No added sugar.

One of the biggest changes I made was to stop drinking my calories.

That's why I'm very careful about what I drink.

For many people, especially those with diabetes or impaired glucose regulation, sugary beverages can contribute to larger rises in blood sugar than unsweetened drinks.

Since making these lifestyle changes, I've experienced significant improvements in my own health, and being intentional about what I drink has been one part of that journey.

I'm not saying everyone has to make the same choices I did.

I'm simply sharing what has worked for me.

For me, water is my primary drink, and black coffee is second. If I drink anything else, it's usually a small glass of one of the homemade, unsweetened drinks my family has prepared.

IS EATING MEAT HEALTHY?

I don't know.

Seriously... I don't.

I don't know if the carnivore diet is the right approach for everyone.
I don't know if eating meat is healthy for everyone.
I don't know if bacon is healthy.
I don't know what the perfect diet is.

What I do know is this...

Three years ago, my health was in serious trouble.

My A1c was 14.6%.
My Type 2 diabetes was poorly controlled.
I was over 100 pounds heavier.
I was taking medication.
My health was heading in the wrong direction.

So I made one major lifestyle change.

I removed sugar, starches, and many carbohydrate-rich foods from my diet and focused primarily on meat, eggs, and other animal-based foods.

Today, my life looks very different.

βœ… I've lost over 100 pounds.
βœ… My Type 2 diabetes is now in remission.
βœ… My fasting blood sugar is typically between 89 and 95 mg/dL.
βœ… I'm off all medications.
βœ… My blood pressure is better than it has been in years.
βœ… I have more energy than I've had in years.

I'm not asking anyone to copy what I did.

I'm simply sharing my personal experience.

At the end of the day, I can't tell you what diet is best for you.

What I can do is honestly share what happened to me and encourage you to keep asking questions, keep learning, and work with your healthcare provider to find an approach that helps you improve your health.

FOOD DOESN'T MAKE YOU FAT.

It's not just about how much you eatβ€”it's also about what you eat.

For many people, especially those struggling with excess weight, Type 2 diabetes, or other metabolic issues, one major challenge is the frequent consumption of highly processed foods that are rich in sugar and refined starches.

Food should nourish your body first.

Too often, we eat for comfort, entertainment, boredom, or habit instead of nutrition.

In June 2023, I made one major lifestyle change. I removed sugar, starches, and many carbohydrate-rich foods from my diet and focused primarily on meat, eggs, and other animal-based foods.

My experience since then has been life-changing.

βœ… I've lost over 100 pounds.
βœ… My Type 2 diabetes is now in remission, and my fasting blood sugar is typically between **89 and 95 mg/dL**.
βœ… My blood pressure is the best it has ever been.
βœ… I'm off all medications.
βœ… I have more energy than I've had in years.

This is my personal experience.

The biggest lesson I've learned is to stop asking, "Does it taste good?" and start asking, "Is this nourishing my body?"

The food choices we make consistently can have a significant impact on our metabolic health over time.

MY BLOOD PRESSURE IS THE BEST IT HAS EVER BEEN.

Three years ago, my health looked very different.

I was living with uncontrolled Type 2 diabetes, weighed over 100 pounds more than I do today, and wasn't feeling my best.

In June 2023, I made a major lifestyle change. I changed the way I eat by removing sugar, starches, and many carbohydrate-rich foods from my diet and focusing primarily on meat, eggs, and other animal-based foods.

Since then, here's what I've personally experienced:

βœ… My blood pressure is the best it has ever been.
βœ… I've lost over 100 pounds.
βœ… I'm no longer taking medication.
βœ… My blood sugar is now in a healthy range.
βœ… I have more energy.
βœ… My vision improved.
βœ… The numbness I once experienced is no longer an issue for me.

This is my personal journeyβ€”not a promise that everyone will experience the same results.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that small, consistent lifestyle changes can make a meaningful difference over time. Whatever approach you choose, I hope you find one that helps you become the healthiest version of yourself.

STORY TIME.

One of our supporters recently reached out to share an incredible update with me.

He told me that since changing the way he eats, he's experienced improvements that go far beyond the number on the scale.

βœ”οΈ His blurry vision is gone.

"Well, my grandmother ate porridge every day and lived to 100."

I hear this comment all the time.

My response is always the same:

Did your grandmother live like you?

Many of our grandparents woke up before sunrise and spent much of the day moving. They walked long distances. They worked in the fields. They carried water. They washed clothes by hand. They tended livestock. They planted, harvested, chopped, lifted, and labored.

In short, they earned their calories.

Most of us don't.

Today, many people spend the majority of the day sitting. We sit in cars, sit at desks, sit in meetings, and sit in front of screens. Food can be delivered to our door. Elevators replace stairs. Machines do much of the work that previous generations had to do themselves.

The lifestyle has changed dramatically.

And when the lifestyle changes, it may make sense for the diet to change too.

This isn't about attacking the foods our grandparents ate.

It's about recognizing that their environment, activity level, and daily energy expenditure were completely different from ours.

The reality is that many modern societies are experiencing unprecedented levels of obesity, diabetes, fatty liver disease, and metabolic dysfunction. At the same time, our lifestyles have become increasingly sedentary and convenient.

Different lifestyle.
Different diet.

That's not an insult to the past.

It's simply an acknowledgment that the world we live in today is very different from the one our grandparents lived in.

Green plantain is often promoted as a better option than ripe plantain.

But what does it actually do to blood sugar?

I decided to run a simple experiment.

I ate two slices of fried green plantain and tracked my glucose response using my continuous glucose monitor.

My blood sugar went from approximately 105 mg/dL to 140 mg/dL.

Now, was that the biggest spike I've ever seen? No.

But it was enough to remind me that "better" doesn't necessarily mean "blood sugar neutral."

This is why I believe people living with diabetes, prediabetes, insulin resistance, or obesity should pay close attention to how foods affect their body rather than relying solely on labels like "healthy," "natural," or "good carbs."

The goal isn't fear.

The goal is awareness.

What raises one person's blood sugar slightly may raise another person's significantly.

That's why testing beats guessing.

Have you ever checked your blood sugar after eating green plantain?

I'd love to hear your experience in the comments.

Today's plate was simple:

πŸ₯© Steak
🌭 Pork Sausage
πŸ₯š Boiled Eggs
🐟 Sardines

No calorie counting. No points system. No food pyramid. No complicated nutrition hacks.

Just nutrient-dense animal foods that keep me satisfied, energized, and help me stay on track with my health goals.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned on my journey is that nutrition doesn't have to be complicated. For years I was told to focus on low-fat foods, count calories, eat more frequently, and follow all sorts of rules. Yet I continued to struggle with my weight, my blood sugar, and my overall health.

Today, I focus on foods that work for me.

Does that mean everyone needs to eat exactly like I do? No.

But I do believe every person should pay attention to how different foods affect their body, energy levels, hunger, cravings, and blood sugar.

This way of eating has helped me lose over 100 pounds, improve my metabolic health, and completely change my relationship with food.

What did you eat today? Let me know in the comments.

🍚 RICE HACK? SERIOUSLY?

Every day I see new videos explaining how to eat rice.

Eat your protein first.

Wait 10 minutes.

Drink vinegar.

Take a walk after.

Cool the rice first.

Reheat it later.

Add this.

Remove that.

At some point, don't we have to stop and ask ourselves a simple question...

If a food requires this many hacks, tricks, and workarounds, is it really the best food for us in the first place?

πŸ€”

One of the biggest lessons I've learned on my health journey is that nutrition should be simple.

The cow doesn't need a grass hack.

The lion doesn't need a zebra hack.

The whale doesn't need a fish hack.

Animals generally eat the foods they are designed to eat and move on with life.

Yet somehow humans are constantly trying to outsmart foods that send blood sugar soaring in the first place.

For me, the goal isn't finding a better rice hack.

The goal is finding a better way of eating.

A way that doesn't require calculators, formulas, timing strategies, or endless food tricks.

Simple.

Satisfying.

Sustainable.

That's the conversation.

πŸ’¬ What do you think? Have we made nutrition far more complicated than it needs to be?
