Diarrhea is when you have 3 or more loose, watery stools in one day. It happens when food moves too quickly through your intestines, so your body doesn't absorb enough water.

Common Causes:
- *Infection:* Virus (most common), bacteria from contaminated food/water
- *Food:* Food poisoning, food intolerance like lactose, very spicy or oily foods
- *Medication:* Antibiotics
- *Stress/anxiety*
- *Other stomach conditions*

Common Signs:
- Watery stool, frequent urge to go
- Stomach cramps
- Nausea
- Sometimes fever, weakness
- Dehydration: dry mouth, thirst, dizziness, dark or little urine

How To Treat At Home (for mild cases):

1. Prevent dehydration - This is the most important:
- Drink plenty fluids: clean water, coconut water, Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS)
- Sip small amounts often if you feel nauseous
- If you don't have ORS, you can make a home solution: 1 litre clean water + 6 level teaspoons sugar + 1/2 level teaspoon salt. Mix well.

2. What to eat:
- Eat small, bland meals when you feel able
- Good options: white rice, plain crackers, toast, ripe banana, boiled potato, clear soup
- Avoid for 1-2 days: oily/fried food, spicy food, milk, caffeine, alcohol, sweet drinks

3. Rest and hygiene:
- Rest your body
- Wash hands with soap after using the bathroom and before eating
- Clean your bathroom properly

See a doctor quickly if you have:
- Blood or mucus in stool
- Diarrhea lasting more than 3 days
- High fever
- Severe stomach pain or vomiting
- Signs of severe dehydration: not urinating, very dizzy, sunken eyes
- You are a child, elderly, pregnant, or have other illnesses

Constipation vs Diarrhea: Know the Difference 💡

Constipation = stool moving too SLOW. Hard, dry, difficult to pass. Often from low water, low fiber, and holding it in.

Diarrhea = stool moving too FAST. Loose, watery, urgent. Often from infection, food intolerance, or stress.
