Hey Madness Peeps!!!
It's official...we are scheduled to depart Yokosuka next month. 😭😭😭 I will be taking the last of my appointments through the end of this month and then closing my doors until we arrive at our next destination!
It's been a wonderful ride here. (if not challenging..lol) Thank you all so much for all of the love and support over the last 7 years while we have been embarked at CFAY. I will miss each and every one of you!
I've been blessed to make some truly wonderful friends from my clients here. It's been a blast...but now onto the next adventure!
Wish us luck as we head to Camp Lejeune, NC and live life on the "green side" of the military for a bit!! haha!!
Peace, Love & Hair!!
Karin 🥰🥰🥰
P.S...I'll be linking some fellow stylists on this thread so you can check out their amazing work!!
Good afternoon Madness Loyalists!
It is with heavy heart that I must tell you that I am temporarily closed to any new clients. 😭I have yet to obtain my CFAY approval and my application has been pending since OCT 2018. Based on discussions I have had with the powers that be, I do not see any resolution in the near future.
While I am not giving up the fight, I have a long road ahead. It is most unfortunate that this battle continues for spouses to gain/maintain employment while stationed here aboard Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka. It's SO frustrating to feel that we cannot support our families and do what we love only because of perceived "competition". I was told point blank by NEX management that I would never get endorsement under the current guidelines.
I apologize to all of you for this inconvenience. I implore you utilize the ICE system and voice your concerns and discontent. I'm as disappointed as you are.
I will keep you all posted as I get more information. I thank you all for your patronage over the last 7 years. Until then...
Peace, Love and Hair

Hey y'all!!!
It's that magical time of the year again...no I don't mean the holidays! It's CFAY renewal time! Prayers appreciated!

Been a while since I posted some hair magic... 😍
Hey Everyone!
I hope y'all are having a wonderful week so far! 💖 If I could please address an issue real quick. If you have a scheduled appointment and cannot make it, please contact me in advance. Having people not show up for their scheduled times not only costs me time/business, it also interferes in my family's schedule. I know we all get busy and ooopsies happen...believe me I know lol...but a little communication goes a long way!! ☺️
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Peace love and hair!

Hard to get the lighting just right in these houses lol!! Buuuutttttt....check this out!!
My client wanted a subtle “oil slick” color...lots of purple, magenta and teal mixed in with her natural color.
So fun!!!! Thanks for letting me play Sabrina!! 😍

Happy Sunday Y'all!
Greetings to my amazing client base and supporters. As all of you know, working while stationed in Japan has always been a bit of a challenge for me. Well, as of October 13, 2017, that challenge has intensified. The current administration at CFAY has made considerable steps to prevent ALL stylists from working from their homes. Apparently, we are a threat to the Navy Exchange. They do NOT want the competition so they have pulled an obscure DOD regulation out of their back pockets that states "no business or service shall compete' with the Federally mandated corporations that serve our Naval Community. This includes the NEX (Navy Exchange), the Commissary and MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation). This provision, however, primarily seems to be being used against the beauty professionals here. (Mind you, the NEX here gets many of their sales from this same community they seek to stifle).
After attending a town hall meeting with the CNP (Chief of Naval Personnel) and his wife who is one of the Ombudsman at Large, there seemed to be a small light at the end of the tunnel. Someone is willing to entertain our concerns. Dissatisfaction over the current lack of community town hall meetings and lack of transparency with the base CO led to many complaints from families.
In turn, 2 town hall meetings were held - 1 on main base Yokosuka and 1 in the Ikego housing development. I attended BOTH. I asked many direct questions to the CO, with little to no response. My counterparts did the same. We have asked...no BEGGED...for some kind of forum with the CO, legal and representatives from the NEX. Those requests have gone unanswered and flat out ignored. We have ALL said how our services differ from that of the NEX, that too has fallen on deaf ears. Living OCONUS (Outside the Continental US) has its own special challenges when it comes to employment. Let's not add to them by allowing a corporate entity to disallow 'competition'. None of us are trying to open a salon. None of us even really work full time. We have families and spouses who deploy. We just want an equal chance to earn a fair wage.
Our base Commander has made his stance clear that "his job is to protect the interests of those contracted agents on his base". In other words, the NEX and it's sub-contracted agents. Thus leaving spouses who's home businesses are in any way perceived as competition for the NEX, out in the cold. While we have been given the chance to maintain our businesses by working "mobile" - anyone who understands our trade knows how unrealistic that is. His response to pretty much every topic discussed was that town hall meetings were not the only means of communication on base. In fact, he repeatedly encouraged people to use the ICE system to voice our concerns, problems and challenges.
So with that in mind, I am asking ALL of my clients - past and present - as well at the community at large to support your home based businesses and file an ICE comment. Express your dissatisfaction with the current status quo. Express your lack of choices on this base. Express your discontent for not being allowed to properly support your family's income. Make sure that you direct your ICE complaint to CFAY ADMIN. This way it goes directly to the base CO. And please leave your contact information. Don't do it anonymously because they cannot respond to you if you do.

Our community needs to speak up!! Support your local stylists! Support your local home business owners! Support spousal employment! Let the powers that be know that we need CHANGE!! We don't want our worth dictated by the needs of a corporate entity that has been given special privileges!!! Please, folks, I implore you to take a stand. STAND WITH US.
Thank you for your time.
Peace ✌️ Love 💖 and Hair 💇♀️

My friends, clients (past and present) and other beauty professionals:
THIS is now your primary means of communicating your dissatisfaction over the current status of things related to home businesses here at CFAY. You may always utilize your resources like Ombudsman and spouse’s command leadership. But this is a step that you can do all on your own.
I’ve asked y’all before...and I’m asking again. Let your voices be heard. Stylists are being refused to work from home because it “is in direct competition with services provided by the NEX.”
If this is unsatisfactory to you...speak up!
And leave your contact info so they can follow up with you.
ICE :: Yokosuka Naval Base I welcome this new method of gathering your feedback, and you have my personal pledge that we will use it to make our already world-class service facilities even better! Thanks for taking the time to make our community a better place to live and work!
Hey all!!! Wowzers! It's been a minute since I've posted!! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break.
Greetings Madness Peeps!!
It's that amazing time of the year again! And no...I don't mean the holidays! lol! It's CFAY re-certification time!!! Yaaaaay! Yup, it's time, once again to match wits with the powers that be as to why I should be allowed to continue to serve the community at large and make a living to support my family. 😣
As of now, I have turned off messaging for my page until I have a more solid picture of the future of my business.
Thank you all for your continued support. I will keep you all in the loop as I get answers. I may be calling on you all again soon to flood the magical ICE department with your opinions.... ;)
Peace, Love and Hair,
Karin
