WAS CORONAVIRUS MADE IN THE LABORATORY?
Since the coronavirus first appeared back in November, scientists have been desperately searching for the source of the virus.
Now, researchers from Scripps Research have analysed the public genome sequence data for the virus, and have found ‘no evidence’ that the virus was made in a lab.
Instead, their analysis suggests that the virus is the product of natural evolution.
The researchers believe the virus may have originated in pangolins and or bats.
In this study, the researchers analysed the genome for ‘spike proteins’ - proteins on the outside of the virus that it uses to grab and pe*****te the walls of human cells.
Their analysis revealed that these proteins were so effective at binding to human cells that it’s very likely to have arisen as a result of natural selection.
The virus’ overall molecular structure also indicates that it arose from natural selection.
In a statement about the findings, the researchers explained: "If someone were seeking to engineer a new coronavirus as a pathogen, they would have constructed it from the backbone of a virus known to cause illness.
“But the scientists found that the SARS-CoV-2 backbone differed substantially from those of already known coronaviruses and mostly resembled related viruses found in bats and pangolins.”
Based on the findings, the researchers suggest that the virus likely originated in another animal, before jumping into humans.
While further research is needed to confirm exactly where the virus came from, the researchers hope their finding will squash any claims that the virus was manmade.
"They conclude that the virus is the product of natural evolution, ending any speculation about deliberate genetic engineering."

HOW LONG DOES CORONA VIRUS LAST ON SURFACES?
The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the world continues to rise and as does our fear of touching anything.
We have seen people putting condoms over their fingers to avoid touching elevator buttons in their apartment building and others attempting to open doors with their elbows.
It is clear that people can get the virus by just touching surfaces contaminated by the virus.
So how long does coronavirus last on different surface?
Researchers revealed that the virus can survive for up to four hours on copper and up to 24 hours on cardboard, but can survive for the longest time on plastic and stainless steel, surviving for up to three days.
But what about on our clothing? We spoke to an expert to find out more.
The official length of time the virus can live on fabrics such as clothings is still unknown.
The virus can survive longer on harder surfaces like plastic and metal, this could be from a few hours to several days but no clear research on fabrics like clothing.
However it is likely that the virus will not survive as long on soft surfaces.
If you are handling dirty laundry from a person who is confirmed or suspected to have coronavirus, you should wear disposable gloves if possible, if not - please wash your hands appropriately after handling their clothing before you touch your face or other surfaces.
It is also advised to avoid shaking their clothing after washing to minimise risk of dispersing the virus which may be on their clothing.
Wash clothes on the highest water temperature appropriate to the item of clothing and normal detergents should be sufficient to minimise risk and ensure they are completely dry.
In addition, clean and disinfect laundry bags and bins.

*ECZEMA*
Eczema is a condition where patches of skin become inflamed, itchy, red, cracked, and rough. Commonly appear on the scalp, cheeks, behind the creases of elbows or knees, neck, wrists, ankles, and the crease between buttock and legs. Blisters may sometimes occur.
Eczema is not a curable condition. Treatment focuses on healing damaged skin and alleviating symptoms.
Eczema might go away over time or remains a lifelong condition.
The specific cause remains unknown
CAUSES
- If a parent or both had the condition
- Soaps, detergents, shampoos, disinfectants,
- Dust mites, pets, pollens, mold, and dandruff
- Bacteria, viruses, and certain fungi.
- Very hot or cold weather
- Foods with too much protein
- Changing hormone level
HOME CARE
Moisturizing every day after bath
Avoid rough and tight clothes
Using a mild soap or a non-soap cleanser
Air drying or gently patting skin dry with a towel, rather than rubbing the skin after bath
Limit rapid changes of temperature
Cut fingernails to prevent scratching from breaking the skin
DOCTORS MEDICATION
- Topical corticosteroid creams and ointments: Type of anti-inflammatory that relieves skin inflammation and itchiness. Applied directly to the skin.
- Systemic corticosteroids: Injected or taken by mouth. Used for short periods of time.
- Antibiotics: If eczema occurs alongside a bacterial skin infection.
- Antiviral and antifungal medications: Treat fungal and viral infections that occur.
- Antihistamines: Reduce the risk of nighttime scratching.
- Topical calcineurin inhibitors: Decreases inflammation and helps prevent flare-ups.
- Barrier repair moisturizers: Reduce water loss and work to repair the skin.
- Phototherapy: Exposure to ultraviolet A or B waves, alone or combined. The skin will be monitored carefully. This method is normally used to treat moderate dermatitis.
Even after an area of skin has healed, it is important to keep looking after it, as it may easily become irritated again.

CORONAVIRUS VACCINE
US BEGINS FIRST HUMAN TRIAL
MONDAY MARCH 16 2020
Washington,
The first human trial to evaluate a candidate vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 has begun in Seattle, US health officials said Monday.
"The open-label trial will enroll 45 healthy adult volunteers ages 18 to 55 years over approximately 6 weeks," the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) said in a statement.
"The first participant received the investigational vaccine today."
But the candidate would still need to progress through various more stages, known as phases, to prove it works and is safe.
US officials have estimated it may take another year to 18 months before it becomes available -- if everything goes to plan.
URGENT
The vaccine is called mRNA-1273 and was developed by NIH scientists and collaborators at biotechnology company Moderna, which is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Funding was also provided by the Oslo-based Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
"Finding a safe and effective vaccine to prevent infection with SARS-CoV-2 is an urgent public health priority," said Anthony Fauci, head of infectious diseases at the NIH.
"This Phase 1 study, launched in record speed, is an important first step toward achieving that goal."
THE VIRUSES
Coronaviruses are spherical and have spikes protruding from their surface, giving them a crown-like appearance.
The spike binds to human cells, allowing the virus to gain entry.
The Moderna candidate vaccine carries the genetic information of this spike in a substance called "messenger RNA."
Injecting human tissue with the spike's messenger RNA makes it grow inside the body, thereby eliciting an immune response without having actually infected a person with the full-blown virus.

=> These symptoms last 3 to 5 days, before a rash appears.
The rash:
- Is made up of pinkish-red spots, patches or bumps
- Starts on the chest, tummy and back, before spreading to the face, neck and arms
- Is not usually itchy or uncomfortable
- Normally fades and disappears within 2 days
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CHILD HAS ROSEOLA
- You can usually look after your child or baby at home. - The infection should pass within a week.
DO
- Let your child rest if they feel unwell

7 FOODS THAT NATURALLY CLEANSE AND CLEAN YOUR LIVER
The liver is like the body’s own personal filtering system; it has regenerative properties, helps clear out waste and toxins, aids in digestion and keeps the blood healthy. But we don’t always treat our livers right (we blame you, mouth-watering sangria). To make sure your liver isn’t being overworked, here are seven foods with liver-protecting powers. Incorporate some of them into your diet to naturally cleanse and clean this vital organ!
1. GRAPE FRUIT
Vitamin C could play a role in keeping your liver healthy; research has indicated it can help people with liver cirrhosis. Just one cup of grape fruit meets the daily vitamin C intake. Just keep in mind that the fruit can also affect drug metabolism. If you’re on medications, talk to your doctor before digging into them.
2. AVOCADOS
Avocados contain phytochemicals that reduced liver damage.
3. BEETS
The research is still in the early stages, but there’s some evidence that beets can protect the liver by reducing excess fatty acids.
4. TURMERIC
Turmeric has been used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for treating liver problems for centuries. The curcuminoids found in the spice might prevent fat accumulation in the organ.
5. GARLIC
Thousands of years ago, garlic was prescribed to treat a wide range of conditions and illnesses, including respiratory problems, parasites and poor digestion. Now, a study published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, reports garlic supplements may benefit liver function. Another paper found that a garlic-derived compound might help heal alcohol-induced liver damage.
6. ARUGULA
You may be surprised to learn that, like broccoli, arugula is a cruciferous vegetable, meaning it contains the same sulphur compounds that give broccoli some of its potential liver-related health benefits.
7. CABBAGE
Along with sulphur compounds, cabbage contains choline, a nutrient the National Liver Foundation says is important for liver health.

NYC LAWYER WITH CORONAVIRUS IN ‘SEVERE’ CONDITION
The Manhattan lawyer hospitalized with coronavirus is in “severe condition,” the city Health Department said Tuesday evening.
The lawyer, identified by sources as Lawrence Garbuz, 50, runs a boutique law firm with his wife that also employs one of their four kids as a paralegal, according to information posted online.
The seven-lawyer practice, Lewis & Garbuz, is located across the street from Grand Central Terminal and specializes in matters including personal planning and wealth management, estate litigation, guardianships and elder law, its website says.
Garbuz and his wife, also 50, both graduated from New York University and earned law degrees from Yeshiva University’s Cardozo School of Law before marrying in 1995, according to a wedding announcement published in the New York Times.
Their firm, founded in 2001, is located across 42nd Street from Grand Central Terminal, and Garbuz reportedly commuted there on the Metro-North Railroad from their family home in New Rochelle.
A client, New Jersey resident Jason Fries, told The Post, “I’m worried,” even though he hasn’t been in “physical contact” with Garbuz “in what they say is the exposure time” for coronavirus.
“It’s distressing when one finds out that there are people we know who have come down with it,” said Fries, 55.
“It’s not an abstract anymore.”
Garbuz was initially hospitalized Friday at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, but was transferred on Monday to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in Upper Manhattan when his condition worsened.
He’s being treated in the intensive care unit, the hospital said.
