Hair porosity is your hair’s ability to absorb and hold moisture. It depends on how open or closed your hair cuticles are. This is important because it determines how your hair reacts to water and products.
To know your porosity, try spraying water on dry hair:
If water sits on top, you likely have low porosity hair.
If water absorbs slowly, you have medium porosity hair.
If water absorbs very fast, you have high porosity hair.
Your porosity also determines how you should layer your products:
Low porosity hair does best with the LCO method (Leave-in/ Hydramist, Cream, Oil) so moisture can enter before sealing.
Medium and high porosity hair benefit from the LOC method (Leave-in/ Hydramist, Oil, Cream) to help lock in moisture for longer.
