Mangalartha Temple (East Top Temple)
The Last Hindu Temple Built in Angkor

Hidden among the peaceful trees of Angkor Thom, Mangalartha Temple, locally known as the East Top Temple, is a remarkable yet lesser-known monument from the final chapter of Hindu temple construction in Angkor.

Built in 1295 during the reign of King Jayavarman VIII, the temple was dedicated to the Brahmin Jayamangalartha and the king’s mother, Subhadrā. Its Sanskrit inscriptions provide valuable insight into the political, religious, and cultural history of the Khmer Empire after the era of Jayavarman VII.

Constructed from sandstone on a two-tiered platform, the temple features a distinctive cross-shaped design with entrances on four sides. Its carvings depict stories of Vishnu and Krishna, reflecting its importance to the Vaishnavite tradition.

Today, Mangalartha Temple is preserved by the APSARA National Authority, surrounded by forest and traces of Angkor’s ancient landscape. Away from the major tourist crowds, this quiet sanctuary offers a rare opportunity to appreciate Khmer architecture, Hindu heritage, and the natural beauty of Angkor in one peaceful setting.

Blooming Cannonball Tree Flowers Add Beauty to Baphuon Temple

Bright red cannonball tree flowers are adding a spectacular seasonal touch to Baphuon Temple in Angkor Archaeological Park, Siem Reap. Scattered across the water and temple grounds, the blossoms create a vivid natural carpet against the ancient stone architecture.

The flowers bloom at night and begin falling in the early morning, making sunrise the ideal time to enjoy and photograph this beautiful scene.
