Because my husband was uncomfortable with my appearance after our third child and the weight I had gained, he decided to bring an actress as his date to his 20-year high school reunion — an action that his father later made him regret.

Since giving birth to our third son, I’d put on additional weight.

My body still ached from the pregnancy, so working out wasn’t on my agenda at all.

But my husband, Charles, chose not to support me and regularly remarked:

"Have you even looked in the mirror lately?"

Or sometimes:

"My God, don't leave the house looking like that. I'm embarrassed to be seen with... well, with someone LIKE YOU."

Charles came home one day and said he’d been invited to his 20-year high school reunion.

I had already pictured wearing a lovely dress and going out for a change.

Yet Charles informed me:

"You're staying home. I've already taken care of everything. I hired an ACTRESS. She's going to PRETEND to be my wife for the evening. I can't wait to see everyone's jaws drop."

That revelation nearly made me collapse.

"You hired an actress to PRETEND to be me? Charles... I'm your wife. I can go with you as your plus-one."

He laughed openly in my face.

"You're not coming with me. I want to walk in with a stunning woman on my arm and make everyone jealous. With you, that's just IMPOSSIBLE!"

I told Charles that his comments stung, but he didn't care.

Eventually, he left for the reunion with an attractive actress who seemed a decade younger.

That same night, Charles’s father came to our house.

He was planning to fix the kitchen sink since Charles hadn’t yet repaired it.

He asked where Charles was.

I explained the whole situation to him.

He put his hand gently on my shoulder and said:

"Don't worry. I'll take care of it."

I genuinely didn’t know what my father-in-law meant by that.

A few hours later, while I was getting the kids ready for bed, Charles came home much sooner than I anticipated.

I heard the front door slam loudly.

He burst into our bedroom and SHOUTED:
