Have you ever woken up with a puffy face, felt constantly bloated, heavy or swollen legs, brain fog that won't lift, or just a general feeling of being sluggish and just not like yourself?

Most people never connect these symptoms to one thing: a sluggish lymphatic system.

And even fewer people are aware that unlike your heart, which pumps blood around your body, your lymphatic system has no pump of its own. It depends entirely on your movement, your posture, and surprisingly: your breath.

The key player here is your diaphragm. Every time you take a full, deep breath, your diaphragm moves downward and creates a gentle pressure change in your chest and belly. That pressure is what helps lymph fluid move through your body and do its job, like helping to clear waste, reduce inflammation, and keep you feeling light and clear.

But modern life works against this with daily stress, prolonged sitting, shallow breathing and holding your breath without realising it.

Over time, the diaphragm becomes tight and restricted. And when that happens, the effects show up everywhere. Tight neck and shoulders, bloating, puffiness, fatigue, and that frustrating sense that your body just isn't flowing the way it should.

That's exactly why diaphragm massage can be so powerful, and why people are often surprised by what they feel afterward. Often I hear comments like:

"I feel like I took my first real deep breath in years", "The tension under my ribs is just gone."

Its really no mystery. We take around 20,000 breaths a day. But if the diaphragm is restricted, most of those breaths are only partial, and the body quietly adapts over months and years.

First the neck and shoulders start compensating, posture shifts, and then the connective tissue surrounding your muscles and organs loses its elasticity. And the natural flow of lymph through your body slows down.

Sometimes the solution isn't where the symptom is. Sometimes its enough to create a capacity for deeper breath, and the intelligent body does the rest!

Mamasitoms🤍

A message to my mamas :)

Birth is over, but your body's work isn't.

I remember how, during the last months of my pregnancy and after giving birth, the pain in my hips and ankles could become so intense after physical activity that simply standing up to start moving felt like a serious challenge.

That's when I started digging deeper into what actually happens inside a woman's body after childbirth.

During pregnancy, a woman's body is flooded with a powerful hormonal cocktail. Estrogen and progesterone levels reach their highest point, influencing everything from mood and tissue elasticity to blood volume and joint mobility.

Then, after birth, those hormone levels drop dramatically - within just a few hours. This is a real physiological shock. And it's about much more than just feeling the "baby blues."

Cortisol, the stress hormone, can remain elevated for months, especially when sleep is limited and demands are high. At the same time, oxytocin, the hormone behind bonding, milk release, and relaxation, needs the right conditions to flow freely.

Research has shown (link below) that therapeutic massage can help lower cortisol levels while promoting the release of oxytocin and serotonin. In other words, the body responds to touch biochemically with a clear signal to the nervous system that says: you're safe now, you can finally relax.

Now let's talk about relaxin. One of the least discussed yet most influential pregnancy hormones. Its job is to loosen ligaments and joints so the pelvis can expand and allow the baby to pass through, and it does that job very well.

But relaxin doesn't only affect the pelvis, it affects the entire body. Ankles, knees, spine, wrists, every joint becomes less stable. That's why so many women experience a sense of instability during pregnancy and start feeling pain in places that never bothered them before.

After birth, relaxin levels gradually decrease, but its effects can remain for a year or even longer, especially while breastfeeding, as prolactin helps maintain small amounts of relaxin in the body. This means joints may remain more vulnerable than usual long after delivery.

That's why returning to intense exercise or heavy lifting too soon isn't simply a matter of asking "do I feel capable?" but whether the tissues are truly ready.

Most importantly to remember is that the body knows how to heal itself, it just needs the right conditions to do so. And that doesnt mean more exercise or more rest. Sometimes it needs someone to work with those tissues with intention and patience, to meet the body where it actually is, and not where we think it should be by now.

You carried something extraordinary. You deserve the same care you'd give anyone else who'd just done what you did.

Kodėl šiandien sąmoningas judėjimas tampa dar svarbesnis? 🤍

Sukame kaklą vietoj to, kad suktųsi visas liemuo.

Why is intentional movement becoming even more important today? 🤍

The human body is designed to move. From the first months of life, babies program their nervous system through movement, learning balance, body awareness, coordination, and emotional regulation.

If you observe babies and animals, they move like a ball, soft, fluid, and connected. Movement starts in one area and naturally travels through the whole body, everything happens as one continuous chain.

Now compare this to how movement often gets altered in adults after years of sitting, stress, and tension. Many people move more like a brick or a cardboard box and basically only as much as the "folding points” allow.

We turn our neck instead of rotating through the torso. We walk tense and breathe shallowly, and the body starts moving in separate parts rather than as a whole.

We are born with the ability to move like a ball. But this natural, integrated movement stays only when we have enough freedom to explore, to fall, twist, crawl, climb, and truly feel our bodies.

In my work I have noticed many times when clients actually become aware of their restricted movement, and as we start working to regain the full range of movement, they often get reminded of the physical freedom they use to feel when they were younger.

Simultaneously they often become alarmed when realising just how stiff and restricted in movement theyve become, and where it could potentially lead to, sooner rather than later (see your average grandpa 👀)..

Sometimes (or most of the time), what a human body needs most isn’t more stimulation or more activities, but rather more floor time, more physical freedom and intentional touch. 🙃

Ką tas petys ten daro? 🙊

-‐---------

Many rotator cuff problems are treated with strengthening exercises alone. And yes muscles matter. But if the fascia around the shoulder, chest, ribs, or neck becomes “sticky” and stops gliding properly, exercises can sometimes feel like trying to open a rusty umbrella by pulling harder on the handle.

In other words: the problem may not be strength.
The problem may be the mechanism. You can spend months strengthening your shoulder, but if the fascial layers no longer move smoothly over one another, your body will keep compensating. That’s why people often feel the same tightness, pressure, or “catching” sensation even after long periods of training.

The shoulder is a particularly demanding joint. It’s built primarily for mobility, which means its stability depends heavily on the surrounding tissues doing their job well.

It relies on smooth cooperation between the shoulder blade, ribs, spine, diaphragm, chest, and arm. When certain muscles in the shoulder, neck, or chest stay chronically tense, they start changing joint mechanics and altering movement patterns. The body finds detours. And over time, those detours become the new normal.

Try putting on a very tight sweater and lifting your arms overhead. Your muscles might be strong enough - but the fabric itself limits the movement 🙃

---English below---

9 years ago, I published my first article which was on the topic of fascia. To this day, I consider it one of the most interesting and complex systems in our body.

I would like to remind you that fascia, is this living network of connective tissue which surrounds and connects all muscles, joints, nerves, blood vessels and even organs.

If you find it difficult to visualize - imagine an orange: with those white fibers between the slices that not only separates them, but also holds the whole fruit together. This is how fascia works in our body.

And the most interesting part is that fascia is not just "packaging material" that holds things together, its also alive, sensitive and adaptable. It reacts to stress, posture, movement, sleep, emotions, inflammation and even the amount of water in the body.

Fascia massage works differently than regular massage. The goal here is not simply to relax, but to restore its glide, elasticity, moisture, and a sense of security to tissues that have become stiff and tense.

When we sit for a long time, move too little, breathe superficially or live under constant stress, the fascia begins to "dry" and harden. Its fibers become less organized, the layers slide past each other less easily.

Therefore, slow fascia massage, myofascial release, vacuum cups or even a simple roller sometimes provide more relief than physical exercises🙃
