Argan oil is the best-known production of the argan grove. In the 1990s, with the various discoveries of its culinary, cosmetic and medicinal virtues, it experienced a resurgence of interest and a meteoric commercial rise. But in the southwest of Morocco, argan tree populations are constantly decreasing and their regeneration is compromised. According to national and international development circles, the conservation of the argan forest must result from the economic development of its resources. Argan oil is certainly the production on which a socio-economic development project can be based.Building on its success, in a decade, argan oil has flooded the cosmetics market in Europe and elsewhere. However, a few years later, we are forced to note that the commercial development of the "argan oil" sector has had no real effect on the conservation of the argan forest, and that it even appears to be in contradiction with the objectives of the developers.
