Ribbond provides a variety of benefits for composite restorations including: 1. Preventing gap formation due to polymerization shrinkage between the Ribbond and the tooth; 2. Acting as a stress breaker by providing strain harmony to the tooth and restoration; 3. Strengthening the tooth/restoration complex. However, Ribbond only has a positive effect where it is placed so try to cover as much of the internal cavity surfaces as possible with Ribbond while keeping it 1.5mm below the cavo-surface margin.

Dr. Bellelis shows using one piece of Ribbond on the pulpal floor and two pieces of Ribbond on the cavity walls. Sometimes a dentist might use one piece on the floor that wraps up the cavity walls, or sometimes one piece on the floor and one piece wrapped in a circle on the walls, or sometimes a dentist might use two pieces in an overlapping “X” on the floor and going up the cavity walls. There are numerous ways to place the Ribbond.
