Angela Mallia de Leonardo Best colour expert of the year 2019 & 2020

A team of experts led by Angela Mallia de Leonardo who was born into the world of hairdressing following in her parents’ footsteps strive for excellence as they stay at the forefront of the international hairstyling sector. It all started in the 70s when Angela’s parents first met whilst working together and eventually in 1974 opened their own first hair salon in Tigne Seafront. Born a couple of years after her parents got married, Angela was immersed into the family business and thus remembers always being “obsessed with hair, fashion and style,” At the age of 11 she spent all her free time helping at the salon and in 1995 at the age of 15 she took her final decision to pursue a career in hairdressing and has never looked back. Following a 3 year apprenticeship at the School of Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy, in June 1999 the family opened the Tigne Street branch and Angela has worked in it ever since. She then furthered her studies at Vidal Sassoon London, Wella Academy London, Patrick Cameron Long Hair, Loreal Academy in Milan and Rome. In 2009 Angela was nominated for the Malta Fashion Awards and has been recognised as Malta’s Best colour technician Expert 2019 and again in 2020. Angela also recently obtained a Certificate in Trichology – the art of specializing in hair and the scalp.
“In trichology I analyze the hair and scalp by going through a thorough consultation followed by testing the hair and scalp using a microscope.” Angela explains that by doing so one can identify any underlying problems of the hair and scalp. Her passion for style and fashion is evident in everything she does and creates, coupled with her gentle manner which compliments it all, “I have a passion for style and fashion where I worked on several models for magazines and shows locally and internationally,”
Over the years Angela always dreamt of taking over the family business and in 2016 she rose to the opportunity to do so. She continued to ensure the best quality of service for her clients and says that her ultimate aim is always to make them look and feel great. Quality is of utmost importance to Angela and her team and only high end brands are used at the salon.
“Using the best hair products on the market, in order to achieve the best results possible, I also import some brands that are not sold on the island.”
Angela has worked with Keresatase and L’Oreal for 25 years and also uses products such as Inoa, Olaplex and Balmain. When it comes to Keratin treatments she says she has carried out extensive research to ensure that the safest is used for her clients and also imports her own products from the UK and Australia. Travelling regularly to gain further expertise and training, Angela recently returned from London where she attended the ‘Behind the Chair on Tour’. There she received training about trends and techniques from 18 international top stylists some of which are hairdressers to the world famous stars including world known Kate Moss , Madonna , Cate Blanchett and Lady Gaga.
