THE HISTORY OF NYIKA NATIONAL PARK

Nyika is scenically Malawi's most spectacular wild area.It boasts an incredible mixture of scenery and landscapes.

Very Little is known about the timings of mans First arrival in the Nyika area.The earliest record of human presence in Malawi is an early Stone Age site near Karonga.,70 Km North of the Nyika Plataeu,dated 73,000 BC .Five rock shelters have Been located within the present boumdaries of Nyika National Park.

They would hv collected All their food from the wild searching out delicacies such as honey,birds,roots,caterpillars n termites.

Hunting trips To the higher plateau were probably taken for large game, but were probably avoided because of cold.
