Lauryl Laurate for Solid Conditioner Bar

From struggling with my own hair problems… to receiving ingredient samples from suppliers to test in my formulations

This time, I’m testing naturally derived lauryl laurate to improve the slip, glide and feel of my solid conditioner bar.

Natural ≠ organic

Both may come from natural sources, but organic refers to how the ingredients are grown and produced.

And remember, organic doesn’t automatically mean better for your skin. Formulation still matters.

Melt & Pour Soap Base 60%
Distilled Water 20%
Glycerin 8%
Shea Butter 5%
SLSa 5%
Fragrance / Essential Oil 1%
Preservative* 1%

Just melt your soap base with a little shea butter. Add glycerin and warm distilled water then let it cool slightly. Now comes the satisfving part, whip it until it becomes light and fluffy. And there you have it, an easy DIY whipped soap!

For the ending, scoop some onto your hand, add water and show the lather.

Herba dalam cold process soap betul-betul memberi manfaat pada kulit, atau sekadar cantik

Contohnya kunyit. Curcumin memang terkenal dengan aktiviti antioksidan dan anti-radang, tetapi itu tidak semestinya bermaksud manfaat yang sama kekal apabila kunyit dimasukkan ke dalam sabun.

Dalam satu kajian, 3% serbuk kunyit dimasukkan ke dalam natural bar soap. Selepas 21 hari, hanya sekitar 0.04% curcumin asal dikesan. Keadaan alkali semasa proses saponifikasi dipercayai menjadi antara faktor utama degradasi curcumin. (ScienceAsia)

Tetapi ini juga tak bermaksud semua bahan tumbuhan akan musnah. Kajian lain menunjukkan sesetengah sebatian fenolik dan aktiviti antioksidan masih boleh dikesan selepas cold saponification. Ia sangat bergantung kepada jenis bahan aktif dan kestabilannya. (PubMed Central (PMC))

Dan satu lagi persoalan penting: sabun ialah rinse-off product. Berapa banyak bahan aktif yang sempat sampai dan memberi kesan pada kulit sebelum dibilas?

Sebab itu secara peribadi, saya lebih selesa menggunakan herba dalam cold process soap untuk warna, tekstur, identiti dan nilai estetik, daripada membuat claim terapeutik yang belum dibuktikan pada finished soap.
