🧩 MALAYSIA NOW HAS KEMAS AUTISM-SPECIFIC TABIKA — WHICH STATES HAVE THEM?

Malaysia’s TABIKA Tunas Istimewa@KEMAS began with just three pilot classes in Melaka in 2025.

By January 2026, KEMAS confirmed 19 classes operating nationwide with 154 children enrolled, covering every Malaysian state and the Federal Territories.

The programme is aimed mainly at children aged 4–6 with mild autism, with specialised teaching focused on communication, social interaction, self-management and early development.

Timeline
➡️ 2025 — Melaka pilot
3 classes opened in Melaka with capacity for 42 children.

➡️ January 2026 — Nationwide rollout
19 classes were operating across:

📍 Johor
📍 Kedah
📍 Kelantan
📍 Melaka
📍 Negeri Sembilan
📍 Pahang
📍 Penang
📍 Perak
📍 Perlis
📍 Sabah
📍 Sarawak
📍 Selangor
📍 Terengganu
📍 Federal Territories — Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan

Perak had 2 classes, Melaka retained its 3 pilot classes, while the Federal Territories had 3 classes.

➡️ August 2026 — Bigger expansion announced
The government announced plans to add up to 132 more TABIKA Tunas Istimewa classes.

➡️ 2027 target
KEMAS aims to have at least one Tunas Istimewa class in every district.

Among the announced expansions:
• Perak — 12 classes planned
• Sarawak — 24 classes targeted

The announced monthly fee remains RM100, making the programme significantly more affordable than most private special-needs preschool options.

Malaysia is starting to build autism-specific early education into the public system.
The next challenge is ensuring enough trained teachers, consistent quality and sufficient places for the families who need them.
