Is the secret to weight loss really this simple?
And when it comes to weight loss, the more water you drink — the better? So is it true that drinking more water will help you lose weight? Let’s look at the science.
There are a number of studies that have explored the proposed relationship between drinking more water and weight loss. A study conducted at Virginia Tech back in 2010 reported that obese dieters already following a calorie controlled diet who also consumed two glass of water before each meal lost significantly more weight than non-water drinkers.
More recently this finding was replicated by the University of Birmingham who found obese dieters who consumed 470ml of water before meals lost more kilos than dieters who did not consume any extra water.
While these studies are linked to larger weight loss regimes, the mechanism by which drinking water at certain times seems to support weight loss cannot be ignored. One possible explanation is the thermogenic benefits associated with water consumption.
In 2003 the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism reported that drinking 500ml of water was associated with a metabolic boost of 30 per cent, or an extra 100kJ burnt. This can be explained by the body working harder to heat the temperature of drinking or chilled water to 37°C. While these physiological effects are small they still need to be considered.
Scientists regularly dispute the claim that water itself has any specific role when it comes to weight loss, claiming that water is only associated with weight loss, not causing it. In real life terms these intricacies mean that drinking plenty of water is associated with behaviours that are conducive to weight control which basically means yes, if you want to lose or even control your weight, keeping well-hydrated is a good idea.
So if you do not have your water bottle next to you right now, here are some more reasons to grab it and aim to consume at least 1-1.5L every single day, along with an extra 500ml -1L for every hour of high intensity exercise you participate in.
1) DEHYDRATION CAN CAUSE US TO EAT MORE

Sindrom Metabolik Malaysia penyebab mati mengejut di kalangan orang muda. Sebanyak 35.1% penghidap sindrom adalah lelaki manakala 64.9% adalah wanita. Umur antara 34 hingga 62 tahun.
Siapa tergolong dalam Sindrom Metabolik?
Mengikut statistik kajian oleh Institut Penyelidikan Perubatan (IPR) Kuala Lumpur pada tahun lalu mendapati, wanita dan lelaki yang berumur lebih 50 tahun kerap dikaitkan dengan sindrom berkenaan. Seseorang cenderung menghidap sindrom metabolik jika mempunyai ukur lilit pinggang melebihi 80 sentimeter (sm) bagi perempuan dan 90 sm bagi lelaki. Acidity of the body indicates the concentration of acid in the body fluids. On the other hand, alkalinity of the body, means the capacity of the body fluids, like blood, saliva, urine, to neutralize the acids.
Our body needs these fluids for the most vital functions, like digestion, transporting nutrients and oxygen throughout the body, protection and overall lubrication of the body.
The levels of acids must be kept at a specific range to prevent harming the body.
The levels of hydrogen-ions in the body fluids are measured by something known as pH, also known as “potential hydrogen.” The pH scale varies from 0 to 14. If your body fluids have higher pH levels it means they have more oxygen and are more alkaline.
Opposite of this, if your body fluids are lower in pH, it means they have less oxygen and more acids. In case you want to keep the normal levels of pH, 7.0 is considered the neutral level.
These are the optimal pH levels of the body fluids:
Saliva pH = 7.0-7.5Blood pH = 7.35-7.45Urine pH = 4.6-8.0
When some of these levels is lower, that means your body is acidic. Many people do not bother to check their pH levels because they are not informed about the acidity enough.
Here is a list of symptoms that indicate body acidity and ways to regulate the alkaline balance as well:
1. Excess Weight
If the alkaline balance in your body is not maintained, there will be surplus waste product in an acid form in your body. Since the organs responsible for eliminating the toxins (kidneys, colon, skin, and lymph system) are overwhelmed with the stream of toxins from the extra acid, they can’t eliminate the excess acid from the body.
The way our body deals with this huge amount of acid is returning it back to the fat tissues, where it attaches to fat cells. That’s why people can’t lose weight when they have too acidic body.
2.Weak Bones

When teeth start to feel the effects of acidity in the body, we might notice increased sensitivity to cold or hot foods and drinks. Another possible result is the appearance of cavities, which is especially painful when eating something sweet. Other related symptom include bleeding gums that might appear after brushing the teeth.
4.Fatigue
Body acidity makes the body much more prone to viruses, fungi, and bacteria. The worst thing is that these microorganisms develop in acidic conditions. Usually they build up inside the gums, digestive tract, and other tissues and organs.
