An Italian artist once sold a sculpture for $18,300.

There was just one catch.

You couldn’t see it.

Artist Salvatore Garau created a piece called Io Sono, or I Am.

It had no physical form.

No marble.

No metal.

No canvas.

The buyer received a signed certificate of authenticity and instructions for where the “sculpture” should exist in an empty space.

Garau argued that the absence itself was the artwork.

The piece sold at auction for €15,000, around $18,300 at the time.

So someone paid thousands of dollars for a sculpture made of literally nothing.

And somehow, that nothing became valuable. 🎨
